Can I use alum alone as aftershave, I have been doing this when I feel like getting my shave over quick.

Yes, plenty of guys here do. I just did a few hours ago and my face feels great!
I have been using alum most of the time since I started shaving, at least after I decided I hated the smell of the ASB I had bought. It smells like lemongrass, just not for me. The biggest problem I've had with alum is that initially I wasn't careful about keeping it dry and it was starting to decompose on my counter. I got a jar to keep it in, and I dry it off with a towel when I'm done using it.
