Alum block question.

Forgive me if this subject has already been talked about, but i purchased an alum block.
The thing is i don't really know when to use it after i shave.
Normally when i finish a shave i clean my face whit hot water, dry a bit whit a towel and make a cold water rinse. After i apply my aftershave.
I would be tempted to use the alum block after the hot water rinse and after that rinse the alum block whit cold water and finally aftershave.
Does that sounds good?
Thanks.

Sounds about right. I shave, rinse, apply alum block on wet face, rinse, then aftershave = face feels great

when you have your cold rinse, dip said block into the water & apply all over the face, towel dry said block & put away till next use
always dry alum block after use or she will disappear on you

What I do is after the hot rinse do a cold rinse then alum block.Keep it wet with cold water and rub you face for a minute or so with the wet block.Let your face dry then rinse with cold water again, then apply your aftershave. This has been working really well for me.

After the final water rinse its great to stop any weeper or nicks. Even better though, I use it to find where I have shaved to close. There is a little sting. This feedback has help me improve my technique faster. I use Thayers after the alum and then moisturise with straight aloe. I like this combo.

I tend not to wet the alum block directly, rather, I wash and dry my face, then splash some water on my face and rub the alum block over my wet face.

If I understand the way that the alum block works and what it is composed of, that should make it last a bit longer than if I put it in water directly, although this might be a YMMV kinda thing.

For me:

Shave
Warm water rinse (luke warm water)
Cold water rinse #1
Alum block
Cold water rinse #2
Pat face dry with towel
Witch hazel. Allow to air dry.
Aftershave

For me the alum block is a terrific shaving tool and a incredible deodorant. Indispensable. How to use properly in my opinion, of course:

- For shaving: After the shave and the cold water rinse, you have to wet the alum in cold water and apply gently the wet Alum all over the shaving area. Wait some minutes, just to feel out? (grammar dude) the itch. Then wash your face twice with cold water, dry softly and apply your favorite After shave. Perfect.

-Like deodorant: Dry yours armpits, wet the alum in cold water and apply gently the wet Alum. Lets air-dry and apply your favorite deodorant or cologne. It's amazing; at the end of the day smell your shirt and you'll see. :w00t:

Is it possible to use the same alum block as aftershave and deodorant?
