Alternative to Shavemac 177

Hi,

I have a Shavemac 177 in finest, which I love. I'm looking for a second brush to alternate it with this last one. I use exclusively soap. I'm looking for a brush with a lot of backbone and more exfoliating than the Shavemac, but that won't scratch my face like a pure badger one. Any ideas? Thanks.

get thee a simpsons chubby my man.....great for soaps, face lathering, and quite scrubby without being harsh. be a nice contrast for that shavemac 177.

Here is a Vulfix someone is offering for sale in super badger. I haven't used one but I bought a similar one and am anxious to try it. http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=152428

Why not exploring the world of finest badger hair? Shavemac's got great deals though Mühle offers them at a more convincing price. There are few silvertip badger brushes who deliver the backbone and exfoliating qualities of finest badger hair and most of them are very high priced.

Ok, I have two more questions:

1) Which are in general "scrubbier", Simpson's brushes or Roonies?
2) Which are in general cheaper, Simpson's brushes or Roonies?

At least try a Semogue Boar from the Vintage Scent. They are so inexpensive and from what you want a boar offers all of that.

Ok, I am looking at the 177 and see some may shed hairs. I have a Rooney beehive and use creams only. Want something 20 to 24 mm knot and I guess shorter loft? I love the hair on the old Shavemac brushes, the xxl silvertip. What is close to what I want, and I dont want scritchy or exfoliating, but something like a Kent BK 8 that is super soft, but does not splay open?

You can't go wrong with the 177; I got one with a 23mm knot. It lathers beautifully with both soaps and creams, is ridiculously soft, under $100 (though just barely), holds a lot of water, and has not lost a single hair since I got it a few months ago. Zero complaints.

I think the 177 is a strong contender for you. As to the shedding concern (and I speak from experience), if a 177 sheds, you can count on Bernd, the Shavemac proprietor, to make it right for you. I'd say buy pretty much fearlessly. [Obvious disclaimer: The warranty doesn't apply to BST purchases...]

I would recommend a Simpson 2 band. A lot of backbone with soft tips but it took awhile to break in my emperor 2 2 band.
