Alcohol vs Alum

I don't know about disinfecting but i can say that i personally find the alum works best for me,its very refreshing.

Totally different products with different purposes. Alcohol is used in shave products as a carrier since it evaporates quickly and has anti bacterial properties. Alum Is used to tone the skin after shaving and its an ingredient in styptic sticks. To my knowledge if alum has any disinfecting properties they are really minor.

Alum will rock your world dude. I just bought a block and let me tell you... it's like night and day from before Alum to thereafter. It stop bleeding tones up the skin, reduces irritation .. all this almost instantaneously. Buy yourself an Alum block.

Alum is the product that got me into wet shaving. I went to Italy, tried it for the first time and then realized there was a whole world of amazing shaving products out there. I loved it so much I started selling it. I think it's worth a shot (but that is a very very bias opinion:001_smile).

I would call it an experienced opinion

Does it sting as badly as a styptic pencil? I've been thinking about getting an alum block.

no. there is a wee bit of a sting quickly followed by immense relief from the razor usage. my final rinse is cold water then Alum. My skin loves me:001_wub:

Wanting for wisdom
I'd place my bets on the alcohol for disinfectant . . . and now on a Saturday night I have to ask . . . even if I don't really wish to know . . . what the heck are you infecting yourself with that you need to have a disinfectant for???
