Agua de Sandalo

Picked up a bottle of this on ebay as a blind buy -- wasn't too expensive. It's gotten good press on Basenotes. Any of you guys have any experience w/this stuff?

Thanks!

Did you order that from the UK? I noticed that they also have a Cliff Richard Miss You Night Gift Set listed. Anybody have any idea how it is?

But seriously, I'm eager to hear about this too.

Evbo, searched in basenotes on "aqua de sandalo" and got nothing. Who makes it? Then I'll try looking up the house. Thanks

It's actually "Agua" de Sandalo, by Adolfo Dominguez. There are some very nice (and some so-so) reviews of it on Basenotes.

adolfo dominguez?

on a related note, i'm trying villoresi's sandalo for the first time....man, it's good but very light, very unisex. I don't know if I'm artsy enough to pull it off.

Apply it & then put on a beret. Voilà!

Alright. I received my bottle in yesterday's mail.

I read somewhere that the definition of insanity is repeating the same behavior over & over again while expecting a different result each time. By that definition, I'm likely certifiable. When, oh when will I learn not to buy a fragrance blind!? :crying:

Naturally, when I opened the package I had to try a little bit. So I applied a tiny spray to my wrist. It doesn't smell bad at all. It's actually kind of nice & fresh. I sense a bit of sandalwood in it (though not a lot) & it's completely, utterly & totally not to my taste. It just smells too "cologne-y" for me, if that makes any kind of sense.

*sigh*

Anybody wanna buy a bottle? I give you good price, my friend. :001_cool:

man, I am with you. My track record for blind purchases can induce clinical depression, but no matter how many times I swear it off and promise myself to just be content with my meager collection of winners, sooner or later the itch surfaces again.

Just ran to the shelf to do an inventory:

keepers: 13
tried: i don't want to think about it.

so, what would you say are the prominent notes in Dominguez Sandalo?

did I mention that Villoresi's Sandalo is probably going on the auction block?

It's beautiful, it's refined, and me wearing it feels like like Lee Marvin wearing one of my mom's decorative Christmas sweaters.

Sandalwood & cologne. :001_rolle

Seriously, I'm not sure. Let me do some further sniffage this evening. (EDIT: It's described on his website as "Citrus-Green-Watery.") Will get back to you. Meanwhile, below is a review from Basenotes:

Adolfo domingues creates, generally speaking, wonderfully fresh fragrances and this one is no different.
The top consists of bergamot, mandarine, violet leaves and some kind of water notes, the mid becomes a spicier but still fresh combo of nutmeg and ginger, and it has a base of sandalwood (of course) ,cedar, rosewood and musk. The thing here, is that as fresh as this scent is, you can still smell the wonderful sandalwood all over the place, and it’s such a nice and clean, clear sandalwood.
Forget those incense or even those vanilla bases of many sandalwood scents, this one is the sharpest of them all.
A summer scent like the best of them. Wonderful for the beach.
Even though I have always seen sandalwood as a masculine smell, this one is loved by women as well so it’s safe to say that it’s an unisex scent in that way: it’s just too fresh for anyone else to even consider what gender must be applied here. And that is fine by me. On me, the sandalwood adjusts to a masculine tone, and on women, I have smelled more the rosewood and flowery bits. I got a big bottle!

Sorry to hear that it didn't turn out so great. My blind buys never go very well either, but that's exactly what keeps me shopping. I'm convinced that the next one will be the one. It's like my past failures promise only future success.
