affordable dSLR - Pentax K2000

I am looking for a birthday gift for the wife. She really wants a pentax because she can use her old slr lenses with it. I did some research and found the pentax k2000 seems to be reasonable in price and amazing in what it offers.

Anyone have a pentax k2000? what are your thoughts? what is a good price for this product?

I can only offer advice on what I've researched. I haven't owned a Pentax camera in quite some time. If she didn't already have the Pentax lenses, I'd say stay clear. Only because their current lineup of digital lenses is limited. Did you check out the K20D or the brand new K-7? The K20D by far is a better value. What is her experience with photography? What will she use the camera for?

Hey,

Although not an exact match, I use the Pentax K20D, and I'm very happy with it. I use all of my old lenses from my Pentax ME-super film SLR, and they work great (especially my 50mm f/1.4). From what I'm looking at on the Pentax K-2000, it looks like a good camera for someone who's looking to get into the DSLR range.

If you have any more specific questions, PM me, and I'll try to answer them as best I can.

All the best,

I don't have a K2000. But I have a K1000 that my dad bought in 1980. It's still rockin. Simplicity at its best. Where can you get the white K2000? It's way cool.

I do not have a K2000 however I will probably get one. I'm a pro and have been using Pentax SLRs since the 70s. One of the great things about Pentax is that you can use any of the lenses from the older cameras, however some functions are limited with the older lenses. I do not see that as a problem because a K mount lens from the 1970s was never automatic in the first place, so using one now on a Pentax DSLR is not really any different than using one on a 1970s K series camera.

I'm using a couple of older istDs's and a K10D now. I am thinking of the K2000 to use as a grab and go camera because of it's size and weight. And it uses AA batteries. For me that is a huge plus because even though I usually use rechargeable NIMH, I know that anywhere I go I can always find AAs.
