Advice on a NEW Slim handle

thanks to the folks here on B&B, i put together a NEW from the lot i got on ebay...http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=131698

here are some pictures of it, as i have been told, this particular handle is relatively rare. as you can see from the pictures, the head is in really bad shape, as it looks like someone took it down to the brass. the handle looks like it has lost a good amount of the original plating. so my questions is, would you keep it 'as is' and try to polish it even more...or would you restore it and have it all re-plated? your thoughts please

In your 4th picture (second last) it looks like the handle has a crack where the barrel joins the neck fitting. It might just be a shadow, but if it does have a crack then I wouldn't bother re-plating. It won't affect the shave.

You might as well clean it up some more anyway. If you decide to get it replated then cleaning it up won't affect the plating process. The lacquer is gone on both the head and the handle already. I use a soft toothbrush dipped in scrubbing bubbles for cleaning when the lacquer is already gone. The barrel part of the handle is gold plate over copper. If there are sections of copper already showing through the gold plate, then you can polish it up since the copper oxidation will continue to worsen.
