What's new

Advice needed!

So I've generalized aftershaves such as Old Spice and Brut and others as painful cologne. I typically use Nivea Double Action balm. Does Old Spice, Brut and new found Bay Rum aftershaves do anything besides hurt?? I used them back when I was 15 or 16 when I started shaving and I like the scent but not the pain. :a11: I would like to try more than my norm. Something new!

Balms are always more soothing, traditional after shaves like old spice (bracing) sting a bit, I just suffer through it as I love the scent, brut does make a decent balm

If you really want to try an aftershave splash, I'd suggest Stetson Cooling Moisture. It has a low alcohol content and very little burn. Available at Walmart for about $5.

Though the evidence is only anecdotal, I always felt that an alcohol splash helped in preventing any problems with minor nicks/cuts.
I've never seen anyone who uses a balm indicate that they had any infection problems, so there may not be any truth to it at all, it's just a personal thing.

Balms always leave my face feeling "heavy" and "oily", and I much prefer the clean, fresh feeling of a splash.
It's all a matter of YMMV here, and if you like balms, more power to you.

I'll continue to use an alcohol splash, because, to me - I just don't feel like the shave is done till I get that burn at the end.

i love smell and the pain after splash over face.my grandp, father,my barber, since 1989 teaching me about pain, smell and pleasure like a man, sometimes a balm is good too.i love nivea White botlle,or some cream like pro raso pre/post with canfor,so fine,........i'm a cave man

So I bought some Bay Rum aftershave and tried it after my shave later this morning. WOW, this stuff is pretty great. My skin feels amazing and the scent is amazing.

The only time I have ever had an alcohol based Aftershave hurt was when I had an extremely rough shave.

I use classics like Aqua Velva, Skin Bracer, Brut, and Old Spice all of the time and have never had any issues with a burning sensation.

If you are getting top quality shaves, you have no reason to fear the burn from an alcohol based aftershave, as that burn will be non-existent.

I've heard that and I must agree. My skin the past couple of weeks has been less irritated and there was very little burn today.

Nivea now makes a splash that does not sting:

If you like the Nivea balm you might try this. It's relatively cheap and has a scent similar to Proraso splash IMO.

Have you tried Aqua Velva or Skin Bracer? They contain menthol and don't burn like Old Spice.

Is this available at your local brick & mortar stores or did you have to order it online?

It's a new product released about six months ago.

When it was first released, I saw it at every major big box retailer.

In my most recent outings, I seem to be seeing it less now than when it was first released. Perhaps sales have not been stellar.

Although Walmart still seems to be stocking it.

I really hope Nivea isn't pulling it.I love this splash. It's my second favorite next to Proraso splash. If so,might be time to start hoarding it.Proraso splash is also another great splash without that fiery pits of hell burn.

There's always an extra expensive stuff like Clinique Skin supplies for men Post shave healer. You get very fine, scentless and fast absorbing balm with fair amount of alcohol in it. Disinfects, soothes and moisturizes at the same time. Or just add some plain old ethanol in Nivea balm.

I can tell you that Ogallala puts something,I dont know what, in their aftershaves that makes my face feel great after a shave.AOS post shave balm is pretty good. Thayers is great but not a aftershave.
