ADVICE NEEDED: Razor Alternative?

Hey everyone,

So I've been experimenting with a few razors over the past year and I finally found a great combination for me...its a SHIMMED Feather AS-D1 with a Feather blade. I tried using the AS-D1 without shimming it, but it barely worked. I have pretty coarse and wiry hair but sensitive skin so this combination works well.

One slight problem...It drives me nuts that I have to use this razor using a shim. Does anyone have a recommendation on a razor that will give me results similar to this combination, but without having to shim it?

So far I've tried the Futur, 34C and EJ DE89.

Any thoughts?

I guess it's a YMMV thing. I found the shimmed Feather to be less comfortable and not as close as the 34C. Sorry I'm no help.

Since your experimenting I did get consistent DFS with two passes using the Feather WTG and a 37C slant ATG.

I found the Persona lab blue blades very comfortable.

Why is it such a problem for you? i shim quite a few of my razors and my Weber DLC is the smoothest razor i have ever used even though i have to use one shim, but i don't find it an issue whatsoever. Once you have the shim prepared, it is just a matter of putting it in the razor along with the new blade. If this combination is working, why change it. If you want something different, you can try an adjustable such as a Slim, Fatboy, Futur, Progress. Good luck.
