adjustables:do you change settings in-shave?

I just received an F1 fat-boy in the mail. I like a very close shave so I turned it up to 9, put in a Feather and got a great shave. No worries. Had a question for those out there who have more experience and better techniques( I still get nicks and weepers). How many of you gentlemen change the setting after initial WTG pass? I was thinking some guys may dial either up for a closer shave or down for less potential for irritation. Just looking for new ideas. Thanks, Matthew

If I use my FatBoy I set it for the blade I am using and leave it alone. When the blade starts getting dullish, I might go to the next setting for the last couple of shaves. I never bother to change the setting in mid shave.

No, I don't change mid-shave. With adjustables, I adjust them until I find an agreeable setting. Then I leave it there.

Congrats on the Fatboy - it is one of my favorites!

I do not change during the shave. However, I do change the setting if I feel the need for a less/more aggressive shave.

I typically dial it back if I go ATG. From 7 to 4 or 5 with my slim, and 3 to 1 on my futur (still getting used to it)

Yes, I change the settings during the shave: I have a super adjustable on 3 for my WTG/ATG passes, but I dial it down to 1 for ATG on my upper lip, as I am especially prone to weepers in that area.

I could never get on with Feather's so for Iridium's & Gillette Bleue's I used to set it & leave it on my FB & Slim, for a change I started using it on 7 for WTG, 5 for XTG & 3-4 for the ATG. I now seem to get more consistent BBS shaves this way but It may be more in my head than actuality.

I still feel like I get a better shave with my HD500 than any adjustable so its yet another YMMV. Its always worth trying new things though, you may be a convert.

Super Iridium's are so nice, so smooth I'm certainly thinking I may be able to get away with a 7 setting.

If I'm using a Shark SC, I set my dial to 5 on every pass and never have a problem. If it is a new blade, I'll generally set it low, say about 2 or 3 and complete all the passes just to get a feel of the blade.

With my Merkur Progress I do the first two passes at around a 3 more or less. For the final pass I change the setting to 1. This lets me do a little blade buffing on those stubborn areas on my neck without causing irritation.
