Adjustable DE instructions?

My brother, (Kcaps), lent me an adjustable DE to try out since I only have one DE myself. I just tried it last night for the first time and had a TERRIBLE time. I did not know what to set it to and things did not go smoothly.

Could someone give me the run down of the best way to use these. Keep in mind that I am a super newb. I only started shaving DE a month ago or so.

Start with a 2. Did you set the setting with the blade lock loose, and then tighten the blade lock finger tight, and then an extra 1/4 turn to lock the blade? If you didn't, the blade may have been loose, which would cause problems. Good luck, and keep asking questions.

Which adjustable did you get? It would help to know if it is a FB, Slim, Progress, Futur, etc.

It takes about a week to figure out a new razor - the balance and angles are all different from what you're used to. Adding adjustability just makes the equation even more complicated.

Set it on 3, make sure it's locked, then just play around with angles and touch until you find the sweet spot.

It's a slim adjustable. I have been getting great shaves from my Futur, so haven't spent a lot of time with the slim.
