adding scent to a soap

I mostly use Proraso (red lid and/or red label) as I like the scent and the smell on my brush. Lately I've been using Williams mug soap where I add glycerine to make it even more slick and keeping the lather moist.

I'd like to "add" a scent like peppermint or sandalwood, etc. Are there scents that are MADE for this or has anyone just added a couple drops of their cologne or aftershave?

You could probably end up using an essential oil. It would probably end up being good for your skin too! I am not sure though, I could be wrong.

Grate the soap, and add the scent you want (essential oils, for instance) as you repack the savings into a container of some sort.

You can find essential oils various places on the internet (for example
http://www.pipingrock.com/essential-oils/1). They suggest putting some in your bath water for aromatherapy, so I would imagine putting a drop or two in your shave soap would be the same thing.

I added a few drops of lavender essential oil to my grated palmolive sticks.
Lavender is a bit weak and easily overwhelmed by palmolive scent. Definitely need a stronger scented eo.

I have the vintage Colgate cup soap which lost its scent eons ago. I broke out a puck the other day, tossed it in an Old Spice mug, and doused it with Pinaud Clubman. I wrapped the mug in plastic wrap for several hours and put it in a bathroom drawer. Later that day, I unwrapped it, poured off the excess and used it for shaving. Smelled good! I don't know how long the scent might last but I can always douse it in more clubman.
