What's new

About one month in: let's hear La Famiglia soap updates!

So, most of us who ended up with the new RR La Famiglia line of soaps ordered them about a month ago, or so. There was a flurry of posts about the soaps, their scent, and their performance for about a week.

Well, now that we've had the chance to use these soaps for about a month, I wanted to share my opinion and hear from others as to how they feel about them after the novelty has worn off.

I'll start. I ordered only two soaps, and no aftershaves. I got the Don Marco and the Cumba Cheech. The Don Marco is still in its original packaging and I haven't even tried it yet. It smells good to me.

The Cumba Cheech is part of my regular soap rotation. I moved it out of its small container and into a Pyrex container to make brush loading easier. The first couple of times I used it I didn't get the most protective lather. For a long time I added a few drops of glycerin to it, which I felt made it slightly better. This morning I used it without any glycerin.

Long and short of it, for me, is that Cumba Cheech has become one of my favorite soaps. I absolutely LOVE the scent. It reminds of of Penhaligon's Castile, which is a shaving product I miss. It lathers up wonderfully and provides for a comfortable shave. After the shave I take a little bit of TwinLuxe unscented aftershave balm and mix it with a little bit of Saint Charles Shave neroli aftershave splash. This compliments the scent of the soap perfectly.

When the Cumba Cheech is gone, I will start on the Don Marco, and I'm sure I'll love it, too. I'll also probably replace the Cumba Cheech because I love the scent so much.

What about y'all? How are you getting along with your La Famiglia soaps?

I ordered both the Don Marco and the Zi Peppino and really enjoy them both. I find the Don to be a nice refreshing scent, but in the past month or so the Zi Peppino has been used more than anything. The scent is just so addicting that I reach for it morning after morning. I will search for a matching AS for the fall.
really like the lather I get as well and so far it is my favorite soap. Can't complain about the price either.

I'm a huge fan of the La Famiglia line. Ordered all 4 soaps and the Don Marco and Nonno Michelino ASBs. I've said it before, but my biggest regret was not getting all the ASBs. All four of the soaps are at the top of my rotation (although I've not used DM & CC for a few weeks since they're all I'll be taking with me on vacation). Very moisutizing, very slick, and great scents...and even at the regular prices, a no brainer. Fugetabatit!

I finally managed to try a couple of Famiglia soaps 2 weeks ago, after a non delivery, and eventually buying from Shaving.ie. The scents I chose were the Don Marco and Nonno Michelino. First, may I say that I have never smelled such lightly scented soaps, the latter easily being the best non scented soap around, IMO. There was no scent. It's no secret around here that I have a great love for Italian soft soaps, Cella, Valobra, and the RazoRock King Louis Lavender, to name just three. Their performance is unquestionably amongst the best around. Enter my two Famiglia soaps and that was turned upside down. Yes, they both lathered easily as usual, but the protection afforded as a straight razor user just wasn't there as I was expecting, or used to. For me, the KL Lavender still rules the RazoRock range I have tried.

I find myself using the La Famiglia range more than anything else I have. They have usurped the likes of MWF, Tabac, Mike's, Cella, Vito's & P.160. I easily get a super slick lather with plenty cushion. My only guess for those saying they don't get enough cushion from La Famiglia soaps is that they've got too much water in the mix. I find these soaps to lather with less water than many other soaps listed above. Excellent product at a superb price.

Which scent(s) did you get, and which is your favorite?

I have slowly begun to incorporate the initial LF offerings. I own ZiP, CC and DM...(most sandalwood oes nothing for me). After a few shaves with each I can say that I like the soaps but am not blown away by them. For me, the best part of the soaps are the post shave feel. They leave my face moisturized and feeling great. The scents are light so they don't really factor much but I do really like the ZiP fragrance. All in all, considering the cost point, I find the LF line to be a bargain.

I didn't get much scent from the Nonno Michellino, but all the others have very prominent scents when lathered up. I really think the Cumba Cheech and the Zi' Peppino are the standouts, with the Cumba Cheech perhaps being a better, more refined version of the Don Marco. If you load enough from the small container, they really explode with great lather.

These were my first RR soaps so I can't compare them to their other releases...but I love them. Great lather, and leave my face feeling fantastic. I use them at least twice a week.
