What's new

A truly sublime smoke tonight

I've had pretty great smokes before with nice cigars, but tonight's pipe blew them all way. I have been at the pipe thing for about a month now and have been refining my techniques. Working on packing the bowl right and sipping the smoke instead of blasting away at it and getting bit. Tonight it finally all clicked. Packed my pipe perfectly with Ennerdale, lit up and puffed away. Only had to relight 3 times and nary a hint of bite from the pipe. Just smooth, relaxing, smoky goodness! I could really, really, really get used to this!

thats amazing,... i remember the eureka moment i had when it all came together for me too.

It is a great way to spend a few minutes of your life just enjoying a simple bit of leisure and some oft needed peace

next year you will have to play secret santa with us

I'm going to need the whole year to try and understand the in-jokes and references to reindeer poop....:001_unsur
Dont worry, there's a steep learning curve but once you clear the hardest part it only get better. I've time I think I've hit the top I find another or an even better tobacco.

James' can be awefull at times... I know a lot of members wives are looking for him... if you see him please let us know

When you get it right, it makes you forget everything else that stresses you out in the world. At least that is what it does for me. The next two weeks will find me happily puffing away for at least a couple of evenings, wrapping Christmas gifts at my workbench in the garage. Great time of year!

Congrats Ed! I actually had a similar experience the other night. I have been smoking a pipe for a few years now and on occasion I have that really really sublime smoke. My wife and I bought our first home together this past summer and I couldn't wait to enjoy a pipe next to the fire during Christmas time. Well the other night I had the opportunity. I packed my Bing's Favorite with McClelland's Holiday Spirit 2012 blend, sat next to the fire with nothing but the glow of the fire and Xmas lights and sunk into the couch puffing away for over an hour. It was a perfect relaxing smoke! It's the type of smoke that we all strive for every time we light up. Once again, congrats on your smoke, and I hope you have many more experiences like it!

I had something like this just the other night too. Power went out for half my town and I had nothing distracting me, nothing going on the next day to weigh on my mind so I decided to go for a walk and have a pipe. It just seemed to "flow" the right way.

Of course, it started to rain about halfway through my walk which wasn't great. On the other hand I did learn how to keep a pipe alight in the rain so at least I learned something!

You can't see him, he's buried up to his ears in sawdust. The wives are after him for another reason, something about looking hot with a mohawk back in the day. Women love a rebel with a set of skills.:biggrin1:

Today I friend of mine, that I used to live with had a sublime bowl with me. I got him started over the summer on cigars but never seemed to be around when I'd bring out the pipe. Well I got him set up with a cob and a bag of lane 1q and carter hall just before I moved out, but only had time to smoke a couple bowls before leaving. Well today after dinner I retired to my man cave and he fallowed my lead and retrieved a the cob and a bag of what smelled like horsehair coated in cough syrup. Correcting this I promptly loaded a bowl of Pembroke for myself and SG chocolate flake for him, showed him how to properly light, sip and tamp it. He said he'd never knew that it could be enjoyable beyond something to do with his hands!!!!!!!!!! I sent him on his way with a jar of Chocolate flake and tin of Mississippi mud with instructions on how to use them.

Good on you for showing him the light and the way.

Got some brookfield black bourbon the other day, and have been enjoying it ever since. Even my wife doesn't mind the smell much. I think I've got a new favourite, and for the first time ever, I've got a tobacco I can enjoy whilst out and about. The whole 'sublime' thing makes sense.....

Ps, please excuse any typos. Typing this on my BBerry, on the way homne from staff christmas party...

Awesome job! It's pretty amazing when it happens.
Thank you, I have a couple friends that I got started on cigars and one on pipes. I always love it when I see them enjoying something better than walgreens cherry or a grape swisher. When I first we had them all over for a bbq and I think there were 8 of us enjoying the virtues of the BL and various people in the neighborhood kept walking by wondering why smoke was billowing out of the garage.
