A Milestone of Sorts

Hello everyone, haven't posted in a while. Just trying to keep my head down and work on my technique and avoid the inevitable tractor beam of AD that seems to afflict a lot of us on this forum, which leads me to the point of my post.

My milestone has nothing to do with accomplishing my first BBS or DFS. I'm still getting the occasional nick or red neck due to too much pressure with the old safety razor. I'm still messing around with different blades to find the "right one" and I'm absolutely positive that search will continue until I've purchased every brand of blade, domestic and foreign, old and new, sharp and dull, chrome, platinum and stainless steel that I can find online.

I've got two drawers worth of product -some untouched, some 3/4 full, some 1/2 full from various lands - that seemed absolutely necessary at the time I clicked the "buy" button. Enough to last for years, I'm sure, but somehow still not enough...

My milestone is much simpler: after almost six months of wet shaving, I've FINALLY finished a whole bottle of product. Proraso AS splash, to be specific. Truly, I can't believe it. It's been marked on my calendar. An important wet shaving anniversary. I DID IT!

Any other similar stories out there B&Bers? Perhaps most importantly, what should I replace this empty hole in my shaving arsenal with?

Toothpick

Needs milk and a bidet!
haha this had me engaged. put it in the Graveyard forum. it fits well there. i've only finished 2 tubes of Bigelow cream in about a year.

Congratulations! Proraso splash was one of the first products I ever finished, too.

In your quest for the perfect blade, don't forget carbon steel. The only ones in production for DE razors are Treets, as far as I know -- Classics and Durasharps. I prefer the latter, myself.

Excellent job! i have finished quite a few of my soaps. i am very determined that way since i mainly only use two varieties.
Well, you may as well get some more of the same product!

Thanks for the replies!

Vise -- I think I might have a full bale of razor blades to get through first, but I'll give the Treets a try for sure.

DEshave -- Yeah I know. Where does it end?

Celestino -- good idea getting more! I'm getting a shaky feeling because that one bottle is gone and I only have two or three bottles of Proraso left, plus all the other brands that are completely full and ready to be used!

The sad thing about your accomplishment is that now you have a great glass bottle that you can't throw out. It's like with me....the biggest part of my AD that SWMBO doesn't understand is the large shelf full of the boxes that products came in. I just can't throw them out.

three-tu-tu, three-tu-tu
I still have yet to finish anything. Since I keep purchasing more stuff it doesn't look like it's going to happen soon. I have a couple of bottles of AS, but I find I use them less and less - I much prefer WH and then balm.

Congratulations.

I know how the OP feels. It's been over a year since I received my first tube of Proraso, and glass tub or pre/post shave cream. Each one has about 1-2 shaves left in em.

Congratulations, sir. The only thing I have finished was my .25 oz. sample of CC Bay Rum and a 5ml decant of GIT :blushing:

I guess there's only one logical conclusion that can be derived from our sorry situations: BUY MORE! Hahaha! :)

We like our little things, don't we?

During my tumble into the world of shave geekdom, I have filled in a shave diary spreadsheet for the last couple of months.
In 30 shaves, I have used 17 different creams or soaps and 9 different ASBs. I've written off my chances of ever finishing anything other than samples

It's comforting to know that your shaving supplies will outlive you. Or is it? :scared:

Wait, so having two drawers of product, some untouched, qualifies as "avoiding the inevitable tractor beam of AD.."? Friend, if that's avoiding the ADs, I'd love to see the BST's you post if you cave into them. :biggrin1:

Shave Rat: That's a good point-- like I said I'm trying to avoid the tractor beam. I never said that I was succeeding. Ha ha! In fact I'm failing miserably! I just try and keep all that product hidden and tell myself everyday that I'm okay and I don't have a problem! :)
