What's new

A few from my darkroom

I finally got a scanner, so I can start sharing my darkroom prints.

I believe both were taken on HP5+ processed in HC-110 on my Nikon F2. Printed 8X10 on Ilford Multigrade IV RC Deluxe. Developer is Ilford MG developer.

Hope you enjoy.

A tree on one of our walks. I love the roots. I should probably burn in the highlight in the upper right a little more. Had to play with the contrast a good bit on this one to get the roots to really pop.

Our daughter. I forget how old she is here. Maybe a month or so. This was a pretty easy print. Exposure on negative was great.

Thanks guys, I'll be posting more soon as I get a chance to scan. Mix between prints and straight negative scans.

Great to see someone else also doing darkroom work! It's hard for me to imagine a way that the baby portrait could be improved. I would probably have shot an entire roll of film on those tree roots and not achieved what you did. Well done, thanks for posting!

Thanks for your kind words Haiku. I'm by no means a "professional", but I've immensely enjoyed going back to working with film and doing darkroom prints. It makes me slow down, stop and think, "do I really want to take a picture of that?". Not something I tend to do when shooting digital. Also, only having a limited amount of tools to correct badly exposed negatives in the darkroom, the pressure to get a good shot is much higher. I prefer not to have to spend the time editing my digital pictures, but I feel like its always in the back of my mind that I can. I also love using old mechanical cameras. The Nikon F2 is probably one of the best cameras ever made, and its an absolute joy to use.

I know exactly what you mean about using film. That's my experience exactly. I envy you the Nikon F2, one of the all time classic, great cameras.

One thing about my daughters portrait I didn't notice until I scanned is the dog nose on the right side : )
