I was at a flea market today and bought and old DE razor for $3.75. When I got it home, I cleaned it up a bit so I could see what I had. I had suspected that it was a Super Speed, and it turns out it is. No date code and no notches in the ends of the center bar, plus the wings on the ends tells me it is a pre-1948. However, when I looked at AsylumGuido's SS guide, I saw that mine had two differences from the ones that are shown. First off, the ones in the guide show a knurled ring right above the TTO knob. Mine is smooth. Also, in the photos there is a smooth flat looking bar on each end of the head (looking at the razor from the side) whereas mine looks like two flat straps below and parallel with the center bar which have been spread out and then bent back flat against the ends of the razor. Not sure what I have, but it does have the Gillette logo on the bottom of the head, along with "made in us" and "reg us" and "pat off". Whatever it is, it functions perfectly and I'm sure it's worth the $3.75. I guess as long as I'm happy with it, it's worth it. Any ideas why the differences on mine? Did I describe it well enough?
