A Big Thank You To Velocityboy!

I just wanted to post a public Thank You to Velocityboy.

He went out of his way to send me a fantastic selection of blades to sample. Not only that, he did it for nothing. I am astounded at the generosity that can be found among the members of this forum!

Thank You Sir. You are a true gentleman.

I needed a missing ingredient to make bootleggers BR and OkieStubble offered to PIF me a sample....members on this forum have a lot of class.....

Not a stinker in the bunch! Can't go wrong starting anywhere with that list!

Well with that in mind, I may just start at the top and work down. This is going to be interesting. I have three different razors to try these in and I'm told that they will probably be different in each razor.

No "probably" about it. They will be different, but that is part of the experimentation. A certain combo of razor, blade and your face will click and you will be set! Don't get discouraged if one doesn't feel right!

I'm glad to hear the blades arrived safely Brew. It's good to know that they are appreciated. I hope you get some great shaves with them, I'm sure you will.

I will certainly give my opinion on these blades. As we all know YMMV, but it will generate conversation at the very least.

I'm actually not sure how to approach this. I feel that I would be better off trying each type of blade out in one razor and keeping some kind of reccord of the performance. IMHO of course. Sort of a shaving diary, if you will. Once each type of blade has been tried I will switch out the razor and go through all of them again. I'll keep all other things equal as best I can and should come out of this with some great information on what blade / razor combination works best with my face for each of my razors.

Due to the way that Velocityboy packaged them, and for no other reason, I have cleaned my Mühle R89 Grande and fitted a Personna Lab Blue in anticipation of tomorrow mornings shave. I am so interested to see how this turns out. I really want to get to the 7 O'clock black. I don't know why, but I am drawn to it for some reason. I'm also really intreagued by the Feather. It seems almost mystical to some and abhorrent to others. So far all I have known are Derby blades so that is my starting benchmark. According to a lot of people hereabouts, things can ONLY get better. Lets see if my technique can do justice to some of these highly regarded blades.

Wish me luck!

Coming from Derby's, yes, I believe they'll all seem amazing lol
Enjoy! and don't let the note taking get in the way of a relaxing shave :001_cool:

So I had my first shave with a Personna Lab Blue this morning. I can definitely tell that this is a better blade for me than the Derby. The process went very smoothly (pun intended). No cuts, nicks or weepers to talk of. In fact I ironed a nice clean white shirt and put it on straight afterwards. Something that usually waits for an hour, just to be sure there is no errant blood to get on the collar. I wasn't immediately convinced that this was a better blade mind you. My first WTG pass didn't seem any better than before. It possibly was, but I couldn't say it was perceptible to me. My second pass ATG and post-shave was where the difference showed. Much easier shaving ATG than I have experienced so far and no irritation or discomfort to talk about either. All-In-all I had a lovely first experience with this blade and would not hesitate to use it again. I will see how my face goes throughout the day, but I believe that this one was a success. Don't forget, YMMV; This is just my opinion.

I have no complaints at all about this blade. My shave has lasted me through the day and I have had no irritation at all.

:shaving:
I will see how day two goes.

Velocityboy also PIFed me a large blade sampler in July when I was starting out, I have enjoyed many months of great shaves thanks to him, kudos to him!

Morning all,

Just had another successful shave with this blade. I have to say that it was just as pleasant an experience as yesterday. When I set out on this odyssey I hoped to get three shaves from a blade before having to change it out. That seemed reasonable to me. Based upon the performance of this Personna Lab Blue, I can see no reason to change my expectations. At the price point for any of these blades, I can't see any point in using one more than three times. I see no mileage in waiting until it feels uncomfortable, so tomorrow will be the last run for this blade (assuming it can handle another go round).

Happy Shaving!

Round three with the Personna Lab Blue tomorrow morning. Today's shave was another success so no complaints so far.
