7'oclock Yellows

I used these this morning for the first time. And I wasn't that careful as it was a bad-lathering MWF day (for whatever reason this happens).

So between the bad lather, and me not paying attention, my face is raw. Are these sharper than Feathers?

Feathers are sharper but yellows are pretty sharp too. I think your face is raw because you did not get the lather right. Try again with another soap, yellows are a mainstay for many people (my self included)!

You and I are blade soulmates... I decided to use a 7 O'Clock yellow as well for the first time(only used astras, red personnas and derbys previously). Holy crap was this blade sharp and smooth. It just glided down my face so much better than the other blades I've tried. I'm thinking I want to get rid of my astras in favor of these but I need to try them out a few more times. I will say that my lather, like yours, was way too wet and did not give me a nice thick lubricant to shave with so I did end up nicking myself in several places. I need to be a little more careful with this blade since it does seem sharper than the others I've been using.

I actually just ordered a pack of Personna Lab Blues, but had a pack to try out. I'll give the 7s another shot tomorrow with a cream.

Also ordered 100 Astras thinking that was as good as it was going to get.. down to about 80. But not sure I'll use many more once the Personnas get here.

I'm a bit of a fan of the Yellows. I would not put them ahead of Feather in terms of sharpness, but I put them in the upper tier of good blades. I guess my ultimate endorsement would be that I did buy a 100 pack.

I also tried the yellows for the first time this morning and got the best shave yet. Only De shaving for about 4 week. Used Mike's Natural soap and faced lathered.

Whooaaaa.... collective consciousness. Today shall be known as Gillette 7'O Clock Yellow Monday. I know there's more out there that tried them for the first time today. Where are you brothers?

Collective consciousness indeed! I was going after a 4 day beard today and knew the Derby in my Muehle R89 would be more trouble than it was worth. Looked at a couple of other choices in my (small) collection of blades and dialed in on the 7 O'clock Yellows. The extra sharpness made a big difference in ease and comfort.

I did get a few nicks and weepers the first couple of times I used these. If you're used to a milder blade like the Derby--and haven't had much practice as to technique--the noticeably greater sharpness of the Yellow can be a surprise. A slick, cushiony lather is a big help.

YMMV at its best. I've had some of my worst shaves with a yellow.

I had tried the yellows on and off for a couple of months in a Merkur 38C and a Futur, and could not stand the roughness. I tried later on with Muhle R89 and the Gillette Slim Adjustable and Super Adjustable, and got fantastic, top tier blade results. So, my point is that you should also consider the razor you are using.

The Feather's are sharper. I betcha you once your lather is top notch the Yellow will perform much better.

Try face lathering the fat. It seems to like that better. Load the dickens out of your brusn and hold the puck upside down (brush bristles pointing up into the puck). When you think you have enough, load some more. Don't be afraid to go back into the soap for the 2nd and 3rd pass if you feel you didn't get enough soap.

Yellows are a nice sharp blade. 2nd and 3rd shave with them is a little more "mellow" then the first one.

I had my second shave with the yellows this morning. This time I used a fat handle tech and mama bears ye olde barbershoppe shave soap stick. I rubbed it on my face and did a face lather which produced a better lather this time around. The blade was a little duller this morning and I took a little more time, not a single drop of blood. I think I like it a little better in the NEW OC (or maybe I just prefer the OC) but I had such a close shave yesterday that there wasn't much to take off today. I did one WTG and another XTG which left me with a DFS. I really like this blade and I just grabbed a pack of the 7'O Clock blacks which I've read to be similar to the yellow in sharpness but last longer.
