I know it's small potatoes for many of you. I drool over some of the razors I see posted here. Anyway, I found this today at a flea market for $10. I hit it with a little scrubbing bubbles and some Dawn soap and a toothbrush, and this is the result. I guess I should invest in some polish to really make the shine come out.

I like the fatter handle and the heavier head better than the later model super speed flair tips I bought recently. I saw a couple of the same model on ebay, and this one compares very favorably for less than half of what some of those bids were. I'm going to shave with it in a couple of minutes and see what's what.

Pffft, small taters! If it gives you your best shave yet, I'd say well done. Especially for $10. Even if you don't see a difference, you still got a great deal!! Load that bad boy up & tell us how it does.

I really liked the shave. Very comparable to my Merkur HD because of the heavier head. Another thing was that the small irritation I sometimes get with a new Derby blade was decreased.

There is some thrill in finding a decent old Gillette for a couple of bucks and then actually shaving with it. How many other 53 year old things could you buy and just put back into service with no repairs, upgrades, etc. and use it like the day it was new? Again, preaching to the choir.

Ultra Cool!

I have a red tip much like yours. I stopped using DE razors back ... well a long time ago. Early this year, I returned to DE shaving. My first recent razor was a red tip. It felt like coming home. I vaguely remember shaving with a red tip when I was a boy.

Not many, but I couldn't even begin to tell you how many 1957 "things" I wish I had or could afford that were still in as good shape as your Red Tip.

Much nicer than the redtip I won on the ebay for about the same money a couple of years ago. Not sure if mine is bent, or my face just too sensitive to this aggressive a razor, but I can't use my redtip. Too aggressive, shaves off skin bumps, and leaves me raw and bleeding. This razor is definitely an aggressive one. Works great for the lucky ones, not so much for me. However, for 10 dollars, nice score. Hope it works better for you, than they do for me.

I'm going to revise my evaluation of the shave now that my skin has had an hour or so to settle. It actually feels closer than my Merkur. Very nice shave! This may be my go-to. I looked at the review section here, and I had not realized that the red tip has a reputation as an aggressive shaver. I don't have an incredibly thick beard but my whiskers are very tough. This razor seemed to be a perfect fit for my face. It even got that crazy spot at the back of my jaw that drives me crazy.

Old school, baby!

I'm jealous.

I hit a couple of antique shops yesterday for the first time since I started wetshaving. I was disappointed that I didn't find any DE razors. I did see a couple of straights, but not even close to being ready to try that yet.

Well, there ya go! $10 & you're getting great shaves!
I think those of us with tough beards need to ignore the aggresive descriptions given to razors & give them a try. I was scared of the slant due to its look & various warnings, even though there were many glowing reviews, but I'm getting my best shaves from one! I have a red tip I've yet to try & would bet it would come close to the slant.
I don't think there's a greater feeling, as far as razors go, than getting a steal on a razor & getting a great shave!

Yesss! I feel your thrill. The Red Tip is one fine shaver. It may become one of your favorites.

I just had a shave with my Red Tip this morning after a break of a few weeks. I love this razor! Congrats on finding a nice one for a great price.

Not small potatoes for me !! I love red tips !! I got 4 of them . Great price at $10!! Beautiful razor !!!

Sometimes I go a whole week without shaving. When I do, I reach for my red tip. I think it is just perfect for that kind of growth. I hope you like your as much as I like mine.

I have 2 Red Tips. I can't decide which one I love more. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones because this is an excellent razor for me and the way I shave ( 1 WTG, 2 ATG passes). Well done on a great score.

Well, even the choir needs to hear a good sermon every once in a while!! :thumbup1:

$10 for a solid razor is never too much to pay . . . and this one will be at the top of your "favorites" for a long time to come!! Enjoy!!
