What's new

501 Special Set NOS.

Here is the 501 Special Set 1930's, This one has the Thin Long Common Bar Handle. I Purchased this set a While back and just realized it has a different Handle the the 501B Set. Not sure if the 501B Set were made in the 1920's According to Mr-razor site. There are both Great Sets, the only Difference in the 501 Special Set and 501B Sets are that Heads and Handle.

501B - Old Type Head and Ball End Handle.

501 Special Has the "New" Head and Thin Common Bar Handle ?

Here are some pics for Viewing, Enjoy )

Nice score Vargas! Is it an eBay score or a local purchase?
Ebay, It was a while back, I got this from a Seller that came well Recommended and He had this Set and also a Criterion Deluxe Gold NOS as well, Picked them up both for a nice price ) Maybe i'll take some pics of the Criterion Deluxe Gold Another Day )

I live in an Un Disclosed Location, Not Even the Mail Man has my address LOL :biggrin1:

I can vouch for this, I sent him a little package once and he said it wasn't being sent to his house, but an un disclosed location...Sneaky guy.

This set is very nice. Do you ever worry about taring the cardboard?

Not Really, As i keep it well Packaged in a Dry cool Dark Place in an Undisclosed Location :001_tongu

Vargas, that´s a very nice catch! These sets have the "normal Gillette confusion mix"

From the early Old Type Pocket Editions we know, that the case gives the name of the set, that comes with a mix of many different razors:

500: Plain
501: Basket
502: Shell
503: Flower
504: Empire
505: Black Cowhide

The NEW 501 special set goes the other way: the same razor in different cases, all called 501 special set. Here are my two sets:

$2013-06-21-09h39m31.jpg

$2013-06-21-09h40m01.jpg

The basket set comes with 1936 (G3) blades. What´s the date code from your blades?

Beautiful Set!!! Thanks for sharing.

I always look forward to checking out your threads, as there is usually something new to drool over every time!

Nice score and thanks for sharing. I also have a 501 Special Set with the thin common bar handle NEW although not as pristine as yours, and I do not have the shipper. These don't appear to be a commonly seen set. Here is a photo of mine:

That set is stunning. A very inoressive heirloom.
I have the 501 (thin handle) which is awesome but since it is not a collector-grade by any mean, I put it to good use.

That's a good thing, Putting that Thin Bar to provide some nice shaves )
