What's new

$30,000 razor.

I like that they are in stock.

Well at least two of them are. Try adding three to the cart and there is not enough!

"Part of that price tag is that there are only two people on Earth who hand forge damascene steel into razors. One is in Japan, the other is in Germany..." HOMMAGE designer, Wolfgang Joensson

Technically speaking, damascene steel hasn't been made for centuries, since the Indian source of wootz steel ran out. Various blade makers and metallurgists, such as Al Pendray, have recreated wootz steel with varying degrees of success. Modern damascus/damascene steel blademaking is generally pattern welded steel, and there are far more than 1 Japanese and 1 German razor maker capable of making that, for FAR less money. (See, e.g. Tim Zowada's creations).

That said, more power to him if he can get $30k for a razor. I guess if people are willing to spend $30k-$100k on a wristwatch, it's not out of the question, as I'd rather spend a little extra for a nice razor than a nice watch.

I'd love to know what it feels like to get a Shave with a $30k Razor. Maybe I could buy one and charge people to take it for a spin and recoup my money. :001_unsur But in the end that Razor is Pretty Sick!!

For the price of the Hommage, I could buy a diamond Rolex Datejust II, a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, and still have enough left over to buy a top-shelf Thiers Issard straight, a Plisson High Mountain White brush, and nearly a lifetime supply of Castle Forbes cream.

Then again...the Hommage is platinum plated.

I really like that there is a 'quantity' option here. You mean there are people who buy more than one?

Toothpick

Needs milk and a bidet!
I love seeing stuff like this. I like to play the "if I was a millionaire" game. They would be sold out right..about.....now.

Here's the real question though. Do you think something like that will increase in value over time? like say a classic car might?
