The first one was a while back with the damaskeene. It didn't work that well, enough to make me give it a rest.
I am now at a point with DE that I am getting great shaves with zero iritation. After going through most of the superspeed line, I settled on a 40's with a Lord Plat blade.
This morning however as I was looking at the Gillette den, I felt I need a break from it and try something else. I am still postponing the inevitable straight razor forage, it will come, my wife is just scared at the thought of a kid bumping into me ("just make sure you do it at night").
So today I tried it again with a featherweight and a GEM (walgreens) blade.
It is a milder razor and I felt more comfortable with it.
The shave was quite presentable but a bit of irritation when I applied AS.
2 hours later it still looks good, I feel that warm tingling, which would upset me had it been a DE) but it is kind of a "learning reward".
The other razor I have is an OC nicromatic which o have yet to clean. I think that for a newbie the Featherweight is a better starter. With no heft to it, I have to take full control on the pressure and the angle. I see it as a good thing. Even the trickiest part, under the nose, was rather easy, do I got a tiny weeper there.
Once I master this one, I'd revisit the Damaskeene.
One thing for sure, these razors are cool!
