2016 NFL Official Thread

Saw Jason Campbell wants to be an NFL QB again this year. Apparently the Colts reached out to him late last year but he said he was busy "chillin" at the time. Mmm, OK. Think anyone will bite? Patriots, Broncos, etc? Not sure the Broncos want to take any reps away from the guys they have.

Slim pickings out there...

Mark Sanchez already out with an injury. Tore a thumb ligament in his non-throwing hand & had to have surgery to repair. So for the start of OTAs, Lynch and Siemian get all the reps.

Zach Mettenberger is available since the Titans waived him. Don't the Browns need another QB? They only have, what, five? [emoji1]

Vinatieri is well loved in NE and will never have to pay for a drink in any bar. The kick in the snow in the AFC championship game was miraculous given the conditions. His super kicks were clutch given the moment but were made under ideal conditions. Viniateri was a decent athlete in his youth.

Hershel must have got a lot of ribbing in the Dallas film room.

I should hope so, Vinatieri is a one of the best clutch kickers ever! Won 3 Superbowls for the Pats.

Vinatieri made numerous money kicks and Brady (GOAT) put him in position to do so each time.

One could certainly argue that Vinatieri isn't the greatest kicker the Patriots in Patriots history. Gostkowski certainly has better numbers as a Patriot.

Playoff numbers as a Patriot:
Vinatieri FG 26 for 34 76%
Gostkowski FG 24 for 26 92%

Vinatieri had a field goal blocked and missed a 31 yard field goal in the Super Bowl with the Panthers. He did redeem himself to kick the game winner.

You are likely to bring up the point after that Gostkowski missed in the AFC championship game. First extra point he missed in his career and a first quarter miss. Lot's of football was played after his miss. Patriot fans don't blame Gostkowski for the loss.

Like the patriots defense put Brady in position to succeed in his early years. But had Vinatieri choked, there wouldn't be many, if any, Patriot Superbowl wins and nobody outside of New England would be talking about the Patriots.

Maybe you might like to review the last minute drives down the field by Brady (GOAT) that brought the Patriots into field goal range in the SB versus the Rams and Panthers. Notice the throws to Brown and Branch to set up Vinatieri for the kick.

If you would like to talk about a defense carrying a quarterback to a SB. We can talk about Payton for sure.

No doubt the Broncos defense carried Peyton last year. It's like the Benjamin Button version of Tom Brady's career, [emoji6]

Don't see the similarity at all. Brady (GOAT) 3-SB MVP, 2002, 2004, 2014. Manning 1-SB MVP, 2007, which he won with the Colts.

I thought that I made the similarity quite clear. They were both carried by their defenses. Sure Peyton's game was failing and he was carried more so but no question that those early Patriots championship teams had really good defences. Defense wins championships. Quarterbacks disproportionately get the MVP win a team wins although not if you play like Peyton did in Superbowl 50. Brady got MVP in XLIX but turned over his prize to Malcolm Butler who saved the game for the Patriots.
