What's new

2 band brushes..

First of my 2 band brushes arrived.

Simpson Chubby 2 Super 2 Band Badger - how awesome was it? OMG awesome.
What did it feel like - exactly how you'd want a brush to feel.

I'll try and make an acquisition once every 2-3 months on the following - I'd like to have a set of 3-4 brushes.

So if anyone has 2 band brushes ;)
Or thinks I am missing a nice big 2band (big and dense) - please feel free to add to the list.

Simpsons Chubby 3 - 2 band Super Badger Shaving Brush
Thater 4125-3 Finest 2-band
Rooney Heritage Stubby 2XL Two-Band
Morris & Forndran 31mm 2-band
Morris & Forndran 26 mm 2-band horn

Looking into further
SOC 2-Band (Big Bull recommendation)
Shavemac D01 2-band (Face & Head recommendation)

Those are all great choices. Since you seem to like big knots, consider the Rooney Heritage Stubby 3XL - it's my personal favorite.

I love my Chubby 2 2-band Silvertip soooooo much that I'm thinking of buying a backup at shaving.ie - and I have 13-14 brushes in my collection very soon :)

I love it THAT much. Awesomeness in a brush

Added to list - as NEXT Brush to get!
Personal favs and recommendations help me choose my next brush.

No Semogues are on your list. You NEED one or two.

I had a look around at the Semogues - the ones that intersted me where the HD brushes
Semogue 730HD Shaving Brush
Semogue 2040HD Shaving Brush

But alas.. they are not 2 band brushes.

I have been considering a nice 2 band brush as well. I would be curious to see if anyone see any difference in knot quality between a Rooney Heritage "Stubby", their "Stubby XL" and the M&F Blond badger lines.

I personally prefer a little smaller knot and have been leaning towards either the Rooney Heritage Stubby 1 (not the XL1) or the M&F size 1

I hear you! I'm trying to find a tube big enough, with good shape to take it travelling with me.

Pharmacy pill bottles are awesome for that. They come in all sorts of sizes. I went to a walgreens by my house, brought my brush in, they gave me a bottle to fit perfectly. I drilled some small holes in it to air out.

The Thater 2-bands come in both Fan & Bulb shapes and they feel quite different. The 2-band bulb is not as radically shaped as their 3-band bulb. Both are very good; when ordering be aware that the knot diameter will come in 2 to 3 mm larger than the published specs and the loft about 2mm shorter.

I see that the Shavemac D01 2-band is not on your list; it's not a knot for everyone but excellent if it fits your needs. Moreover, their "Experts Select" option really lets you build the brush to your specification. I should note that Claus has recently experienced a bout of custom brushes from Shavemac that were well outside of what he ordered. I expect they'll make it right but it's still a colossal PITA. I think this was an aberration as the customer service & QC are usually flawless.

Finally, I hear that you love the Chubby (who wouldn't?) but I'm not sure if you want some variety in the characteristics of the next brush or are looking for another brush that will emulate the performance of the CH2.

Nice set of brushes. I just bought a Simpson Polo 10 2 band super badger. I have not used it yet so I don't know how it compares with my other brushes. The Chubbies 2 and 3 are certainly big and dense. I have a Chubby 2 Manchurian and a Chubby 3 band super badger. I like them both a lot. The Chubbies are the densed brushes I own ( I also own a Chuby 1 best). I have no idea how the Chubby 2 band and 3 band compare. When I bought the Chubby 3 band I did not know the differnence between a two band and a three band brush. Even after about 8 months of DE shaving there is still a lot I don't know and I am still learning. The brothers and sisters of this group are great teachers. Enjoy your brushes.

^ Don't know if you were refering to me or to the OP, but 8 months as a member of this forum and I still haven't figured out how to post pictures. I do have my iPhone camera and I think that will work. One B&B brother was kind enough to post instructions. Will have to go back and read his post. Still an idiot after 8 months.

Obviously you have an affinity for very nice brushes. That said, imho if you overlook the SOC 2-Band you are missing the boat.

One of the nicer things about the 2-band Silvertip is that they bloom far less than their 3-Band cousins do.
So finding a tube big enough the for Chubby 2 in 2-band will be a somewhat easier task than finding a tube for a Chubby 2 3-bander...........but still not an easy task though

That good huh! Am going to put that brush down on my research list.
I missed a boat once, and a flight, and a dinner date. They all equally sucked - and I don't want to miss them again.

Not sure if I want to widen the variety of a brush too much, after finding a style of brush that really works for me. Dencs, big handle, 2band with a good backbone really pleases me.

I'm defintiley going to look into the Shavemac D01 2-band a bit more now that you have suggested it

I was look for something like this for the loft of the brush.. might need to find something with a narrow with a large screw top

its listed as "Office Red Plastic Cylinder Seal Stamper Holder Box Case w Clear White Cap" in ebay and costs about $5 free delivery.

Wondering if that has a flat base though.

Thinking I should engineer brush collection stands, holders, and carry cases, taking into account ventilation and lofts.
