2 band brush owners

What puzzled me about my 2 band from GN is that it didn't feel as soft to the touch when dry (scrubby not scratchy) but certainly became softer than my other brushes when wet. This freaked me out a bit. I was mainly used to Simpson Best, is this a common characteristic amongst the more reputable 2 banders also or are they "soft when dry"?

2 band brushes from makers like Simpsons have a reputation for being "scritchy". I have a 2 band and it does not feel as luxurios as my Silvertip Shavemac or my B&B 2008 LE. But it's all good. The Simpsons is my favorite brush.

From my experience with Simpsons and Rooney, they start out very scritchy but tend to "break in" after several uses. Mine have become very soft at the tips and feel great, but still have that nice firm backbone to them.

Most people look for soft brushes. 2 Banded are unique in that they have a lot of spring in the bristles. I never find them scritchy (don't know what it means) or scratchy (I would not use anything scratchy in my face)

Can someone educate me? What is a 2 band brush?

Are there really any farms left in Naperville?

Most of the quality badger bristle has three "bands": white (or tan) at the base then black in the middle and then a pale (white) tip. The cooler climate/winter coats are longer and whiter at the tips. When the knot is made, the bottom band gets cut off or at least buried deep in the knot inside the brush handle - you can see a hint of tan in the pics. The result is that the brush has the striking black/white appearance commonly called 2-band. Most 2-band or true white that I have seen has a distinct pinkish-yellow cast to it in some light. There have been suggestions of bleaching but I think the colors are genuine and they are consistent between Rooney, Simpson and Plisson at least.

Do these qualify? I have the one in the middle. Its a finest badger from Tony at Penworks. The picture does not do it justice.

My GN finest knot does the exact same thing actually. It feels as soft as silk when wet, but no softer than a Rooney super when dry.
