Having read Joel's effusive review of the QED Rose soap, I contacted Charles to buy some. Sad, sad news. He is no longer making it. Rose oil has become prohibitively expensive, and Charles will only use natural oils (often from flowers and herbs that he grows himself).
But there is good news. His selection of soap scents has become very impressive, and it now includes a rose geranium. This morning I used the rose geranium soap, and I believe I had the greatest shave of my life. I used my go-to slant bar and a new Swedish Gillette blade (which I was trying for the first time), and those were major plus factors. But undoubtedly the biggest factor was the huge, beautiful scent of the soap, the sensuous lather, and the almost unworldly lubrication that it provides. I never did get to try the rose soap, but this rose geranium is easily the best shaving soap I have ever used. (Note: It isn't the same gorgeous color as the rose soap).
For those who don't know, you can check out QED on line at http://www.qedusa.com. Click on "other products" (it is a pretty bad website). I recommend that those who have not yet done so call (401) 433-4045 and spend some time with Charles. You will learn an enormous amount about shaving, scents, toileties, etc.
OK, now I'm unhappy. It turns out my wife hates rose scent in any variety. She freaks out (and opens windows) whenever I use the QED Rose Geranium. She hates it as much as I love it.
