Little Help with Tarnished Silver?

I've cleaned up dozens of ancient, silver plated Gillettes, but this one is stubborn. Attached image is the head cap of a new improved. The plating on the rest of the piece is in very fine condition. The head cap, I've used every trick I know: long hot soak, scrubbing bubbles, baking soda, but I haven't been able to get this to match the polish of the rest of the razor.

Darker areas on silver is often an indicator that the plating has thinned, but I don't think that's the case here, as I've been able to see some improvement.

Any suggestions?

Go get some Goddards silver polish. It works wonders on these silver plated razors.

I use Maas metal polish for that job.

Looks like older Chromium cap to me.

Get the Goddard's liquid and just drop the razor in the jar - miracles happen!

Yes, it's silver. I was thinking there might be a thin coat of lacquer or similar that's preventing the polish from working. Maybe some lighter fluid to clean it off.

Thats a definite possibility. Any yellowish areas? It's hard to tell from the pics.

I use Blitz Silver Shine polish. It is available at Home Depot hardware stores website.it is the least damaging.
