Circa 1950 Gillette Lather Shaving Cream containing K-34 antiseptic (hexachloraphene) that Gillette maintained "destroyed" 99% of facial bacteria. In 1972 because of FDA reports of toxicity, Gillette discontinued use of Hexachlorophene. Other companies followed suit.
