Which of these is the LORD Tech??

What's the difference between these two LORD models?

These both appear to be the nearly the same razor to me??

I am asking, because I am putting together a "thank you" PIF to be given away to a newbie, and I wanted to include a razor very similar to the tech. (Ok, and I will probably pick up one for myself too, to supplement my existing Gillette Ball End Tech, and Merkur 38C Barber Pole w/ red handle).

The thank you kit will be my way of sharing the wealth of knowledge I have gleaned from this board with a newbie. I need the razor, and some blades, and the PIF will be a complete kit for a newbie: razor, blades, brush, soap, and cream. Woo Hoo!!

Thanks for your help!

They appear to be identical in design elements. The one on the bottom looks like it may be constructed from better quality materials... at least that's what they want us to believe by the labeling "premium" on the package :tongue_sm

They are identical in design. The top model (L122) is (very) old stock and the model at the bottom (LP1822) is less old stock. They are replaced by another LP1822 with a Merkur type head.
The Lord tech style razors do seem to be more aggressive than the Gillette's.

"It appears to have a painted handle" , I think it is plastic, The Lord Smart has the same handle. That picture looks to have the Tech style head, a little hard to tell though. :smile:

For sake of discussion, there is also this one:

It appears to have a painted handle, so it is not as sharp looking as the other two.

How do I tell an original 1822, for the newer 1822 with the Merkur like head?

This LP1823 is old stock too; there is no such article number in current production but it could be the predecessor of the S625/Smart. Anyway, the razor you found is also fitted with a tech type head.
When you want the tech type razor and you order in the US you shouldn't worry too much since the new Merkur-like razors hardly seem to be available yet.
When you would like the new type things are more tricky; I have this place in the Netherlands for the new LP1822;

And fellow member Tucker found the new S625/Smart which has the same Merkur head;

All other US sites I have checked carry the old tech type razor but I didn't check them all so maybe you can dig up some more places for the new razors.
BTW these new merkur like razors are in my little collection among the best shavers despite their humble looks and friendly price tag.

But where can we find the Premium whit the Merkur head online ?

I too would like to find a US vendor for the newer LP1822 with the Merkur Like Head. I call this razor the "Lord Merkur Tech" to distinguish it from the more common Lord Tech.

The "Lord Merkur Tech" is a simply phenomenal razor, that shaves like a dream. Despite it's low price tag, it is a wonderful razor, and I would recommend it as my #1 choice for a newbie looking for a new razor, if it were more readily available.

I had my Smart yesterday, it's a wonderful shaver, reminds me a HD but whit a longer handle.

I shaved today with the Lord Smart head (aka the Lord Merkur like head) on a Ball End Handle from a Gillette Old/New. Awesome shave that was very close, and comfortable. :thumbup::thumbup:

The Lord Smart on it's own is a great shaver, I just prefer the head to be on a metal handle instead, as with the plastic handle the razor is very head heavy.

I really wish the Lord LP1822 with the Merkur style head were available here in the states. If it were, it would be my #1 choice to recommend to newbies sitting on the fence about DE shaving. :thumbup1:
