Watch him in Life's Too Short with Ricky Gervais when he does the bit about him (Liam Neeson) wanting to get into improv and stand up comedy. That ought to convince anyone he can play the deadpan comedic straightman.
As mentioned, he's done the Seth McFarlane comedy "A Million Ways to Die in the West" and several episodes of the Family Guy series.
He's had parts in "Ted 2", "Nut Job", and "The Lego Movie", all comedies.
