StubbleTrouble's Stumbly DE Journal

I usually do three and sometimes go up to four passes and almost always without irritation. I think I may have just been too aggressive or perhaps the blade went dull a bit quicker than usual. The redness is completely gone now :001_smile

Try two passes with intense concentration on each stroke.......

Day 92

Pre
Wash Hair
Wash Beard with Cetaphil Soap, rinse, repeat
Soak brush in hot water with Stainless lather bowl
Shower as normal
Additional quick scrub of beard with Cetaphil
Rinse beard well, using lukewarm water
Lather up with Proraso Green Cream in bowl, then for about 90 seconds on face to exfoliate beard for first pass. Smooth and 'paint' on lather into a semi-thick layer

Shave
FaTip Grande, Personna Med Prep - Shave 1

Growth
1 Day

Pass 1 - WTG
Warm water rinse
Re lather, but with about 30 seconds of brushing into beard and a little less on the application
Pass 2 - XTG - Ear to Chin
Warm water rinse
Re lather where necessary
Light touch up

Post
Warm water rinse followed by Alum Block, rested for about 2-3 minutes
Rinse beard well, using water as cold as I could stand for approx. 2 minutes
Splash of witch hazel, allow to mostly dry
Healthy splash of Osage Rub
Proraso Pre-Shave as ASB
From time to time during the day, apply raw Shea Butter to beard

The FaTip Grande is yet again efficient and comfortable. It's a predictable razor plain and simple.

The alum block stung again a little in a few spots but no redness or irritation. I'm still fighting some residual rosacea which makes the alum speak up and honestly could have waited to shave, but I don't need to explain myself here... :001_tongu

I dropped what was left of my alum block on the countertop and it exploded into pieces. It was getting too small to be used as deodorant anyway...

Anyway, this was an amazingly close and extremely comfortable shave. BBS on the face and DFS on the neck. Unfortunately, my rosacea didn't go into remission for long and I noticed my nose and cheeks were splotched after the shower. Not long afterwards the same thing appeared on my face, which is what happens sometimes.

This razor does such a fantastic job on my beard that I'm overlooking the rosacea (that gets me frustrated from time to time).

The alum block gave slight tingle in a few spots, but everything feels super comfortable!

Once again, I thought I'd go back to my first days and grabbed my original setup. It's a very mild combination that reminds me of true beard reduction. Each pass took a bit more away till I ran out of lather. The Merkur Super lost a good bit of its edge since the first shave, and it left more stubble behind. I still have a super comfortable result and the blade is extremely predictable. I enjoyed myself, and in the end, I don't care how many passes it takes as long as it's comfortable and lacking any redness!

I'd like to try this blade in an aggressive razor; something tells me it would be a pleasant experience.

The alum block was basically quiet.

Nice shave with no irritation, but this blade isn't sharp for me. I would have thought a three pass shave would have been enough with any blade in the 37C, even with 3 days growth, but not this one. I remember reading it was a sharp blade, but it seems about like a Merkur Super with about the same amount of comfort post shave. Another beard reduction exercise today!

I can't complain in the end as I have DFS with zero irritation.

The alum block was quiet.

Great shave, but a bit of irritation in one spot where there's been some lagging rosacea. The Tech shaves as well as any aggressive razor I own as long as it has a sharp blade loaded.

The alum block was quiet in all areas except where there was rosacea.

Still the lagging rosacea in one spot, so I didn't shoot for BBS. No worries anyway! I got DFS very easily with just two passes, and the leftover rosacea wasn't exacerbated by the shave at all. The Fatip, Techs and the 37C Slant Bar are my top tier razors - what a range of personalities, but all of them are working fantastically for me

The alum block gave only very faint tingle in the usual spots. The feedback (unless something's wrong) is slowly but surely getting less and less over time now that I think of it.

No redness, burn, glow or bumps. I know / hope that someday my technique will be such that I can get BBS with two passes.

Rosacea's much better again, bu still a hint so DFS was the goal for today and that's what I have. The Fatip seems to be a good daily shaver for me, at least with the a Feather or Med Prep loaded. The shave didn't bother it once again, which is good.

The alum block gave a little tingle in the usual spots (neck and below the jawline).

No redness, burn, glow or bumps.

This was my first time shaving with the R41 of any type, and every bit of caution I thought I'd need,,, I needed.

Once the blade starts cutting, this razor tells you straight away that you'd better not turn your back on it for a second. The sensation was simply different from anything I've used. The first pass was DFS. I started out trying an ATG on the 2nd pass, but the blade was skipping more than I care for, so I continued on shaving XTG. I decided not to do any touch up out of sheer caution. This is going to be an interesting addition to my den and it's probably going to teach me some things.

So, the prognosis: I can use this razor and get away with it, but it is AGGRESSIVE and I admit that it gave me a run for my money. There is a learning curve to this instrument, but I'm happy enough that my technique has advanced enough to use it without irritation, nicks and weepers.... At least so far....

My face is just about BBS and my neck is much smoother than usual and DFS+ in all areas.

The alum block gave light sting in all areas, but not what I would call discomforting burn.

No redness, burn, glow or bumps which is fantastic. Not that I often get nicks or weepers, but I feel a victory in carrying on as such tonight!

Just did a quick 'touch up shave' riding on last night's shave with the 2011 R41 so that I'd be nice and tidy for the festivities today. I used my new Weber short handle and it really added some nice heft to such a light razor.

The alum block gave a little tingle on the neck.

No redness, burn, glow or bumps.

It didn't even frame my mind till sitting down and seeing the numbers in front of me - 100 DE Shaves! :a50:

I feel I'm starting to get more familiar with the 2011 on the second shave and also used a shallower angle (maybe 5-10° less?) today which felt a bit smoother but still cut very well. I think I can try a third pass now after having two quite successful shaves with this razor, but ultimately my caution has payed off.

It is providing a new learning curve which keeps things interesting. I'll have to keep playing with the angle moving forward, but I'm beginning to see a bit of predictability with the 2011, and it also growls before it bites, just like the Fatip :wink2:

My face feels no irritation, so perhaps this can become a daily shaver if I'd like.

The alum block gave some mild sting in areas, but less than yesterday.

No redness, burn, glow or bumps (or weepers) and my face feels very nice at the moment!

First time in a while that I got a nick! Right on the cheek. It stopped after the following pass, but it's a good reminder to pay attention.

The rinse didn't sting after the second pass, so I went for BBS on the face with an ATG pass and got it. Still not going to try that on the neck, but that day will come soon enough I reckon. This razor eats blades and I'm not going to use anything pass two shaves to be safe. I can see firsthand the reports that blade life is decreased - it's such a direct-contact shaver.

The alum block gave some mild sting, especially on the neck. As I'm honing the angle of this razor the feedback seems to be less and less.

No redness, burn, glow or bumps.

Feathers do the trick with this razor and I enjoy it much more this way than with Wilkies. Water here is hard as can be but I dialed the lather and went to it. Just an enjoyable shave that wasn't even showing stubble 15h+.

Two great shaves with a Feather is about the maximum life for me as well as many others' posted results. Really a super smooth shave, but I noticed growth sooner in the day than shave one on the blade. One great thing about travel is that having only one razor is a good way to compare different blades. I'm posting this about 40 hours post shave and can say it was a lasting shave. The Med Prep has a distinct personality compared to the Feather, but definitely about as effective.

Sometimes I get some irritation on my beard when I skip a day or two of shaving, and that was the case going into the shave today. Now that I think of it, that would have caused super irritation with a cart, but you've gotta shave, right?

I was a little worried this shave might irritate it further, but it didn't at all. On another note, this was the first time I tried this razor with a Feather and all I can say is Wow! Super smooth and no biting at any point! I was even able to get a touch of ATG on the neck in the most sensitive areas, and no irritation at all. I'm glad I gambled before even trying this razor and bought a backup.

If the 2011 model is a glimpse into straight razors as some say, I'm getting interested!

I could have easily gone for BBS in hindsight, but caution took over.

The alum block was mostly quiet.

No redness, burn, glow or bumps.
