What a wonderful shave! The Wacker's never cease to amaze, and this morning's lather was the Antik's equal! The ginger and lemongrass in the Bomb Saigon paired perfectly with the woody tones in the Nomad. As the scent filled the air, the sound of the razor slicing the whiskers made me think of the wind blowing gently through a rain forest... :w00t: In the end, my face was smooth and hydrated and I was ready to head to work!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Vasco,

Thanks for the mini review. I guess you never know unless you try right? Hey, it could have been a real find. That happens, too.

Progress w/ Bleue Extra (3)
Semogue 1450 boar
High Life SS :thumbdown
High Life Bay Rum AS

Today's shave was pretty lame. That's what you get when you want to try new, obscure soaps...
I don't really know where to start from. High Life is an Arizona-based company that has specialised in pomades and products alike. I've never tried any of their grease range so I don't know if they're good or not but they seem to have some following.
Now, when I saw they were issuing their own shaving soap, and given the fact I wanted to try something new and unknown, I didn't think twice and ordered a puck for myself. It comes in a rectangular (?) shaped tin box with the High Life retro-style sticker on it.
This soap is incredibly bad: almost imperceptible scent, it makes a thin and short-lived lather, but that's not the worst of it. This soap gives no moisturising effetc at all! While passing the blade across your face, you'll feel your skin as dry as a paper leaf and you'll have to struggle a bit to make it till the end. Incredibly, although this resulted in a very mediocre shave, I managed not to cut myself and my skin was far from being irritated. Guess the shea butter protective properties are probably the only good thing about this goats milk based soap. For the record, High Life soap is manufactured by presleypaige.com.

The AS on the other hand is quite nice, a sort of mellow Bay Rum concoction made by Lucky Tiger. I've never tried their Bay Rum lotion but I supposed this one must be a rebranded equivalent.

Cheers,
Vasco

Yep. That's what I keep telling myself. It's hard to justify such a fiasco...
But hey, I must look on the bright side of things: I got a nice tin box that I might eventually find a use for, and in any case I'll be using a new kind of hand soap in a few days! :001_smile

mmmmmmm.... aaaaaaahhhhh...........

Sunday night is my when I give myself a little extra time for my shave...
And thought I'd share my latest...

MWF + Trumper's Rose (puck)
at about a 3:1 ratio in favor of MWF

First I beat up the MWF... and at this point I'd like to mention that Herbal Cowboy makes a great affordable Vegan brush... I ain't no vegetarian by a long shot, but at $5 it's unbeatable as a travel brush, or for use with my lanolin soaps (MWF, Musgo Real)... got it when I read that lanolin can gum up your bristles with time, just didn't expect to enjoy the brush so much. bristles feel akin to boar rather than badger, for those interested...

Then I added my Trumper's Rose... but just a touch.
using my favorite badger brush, which I lovingly restored...

And check out the cream cone when they're blended together...
And it smells as good as it feels....

Now for razors, I took out my restored 5/8 Joseph Rodgers
and my Merkur 38C barber pole with a new Feather blade
(my fave combination for DE)...

Now, I use both razors because I am transitioning to Straights,
and learning to shave my face one section at a time...
This week it's right and left cheek and neck.

And the capper...? I didn't shave. At first...

I began by swirling all that goodness into my beard for 3 minutes, then wrapped a hot towel around my mug for another 5.... Just lay in bed while my girl finished dinner.

Then my friends, I went to town...

I had a similar experience a few years ago. I bought a soap from a local Texas soaper. The stuff had a wonderful musk/spice scent. Awful lather, almost impossible to shave with. So, for a while I had a nice, if expensive, bath soap. Live and learn.
