Slapped or smoothed

So just a quick question, which way do you apply your aftershave. Personally I've found if I just smooth the aftershave on my face I seem to get more of burn, which I really like. So like I asked which way do the rest of you good folk apply it and why?.

Smoothed. Why would I want to slap myself in the morning after a fine shave?!

I've been getting some great shaves lately so little to no aftershave sting.

I slap myself repeatedly to remind myself that the shave is actually over.

At least this is what I mean by slapping - not my thing:

Just put it on, feel the burn (if any) and carry on.

Mostly smoothed, which is counterintuitive as I've been told I have a slappable face.

With Brut I'll tend to splash it all over, but I can't claim originality for that approach.

Gentle pats and smoothed. I’ve had a couple of times when I’ve been too energetic getting my hands to my face and have gotten a drop of the aftershave in my eye. That stings!
