"Look what I found"
From todays flea market. The Wednesday market has been slow lately but one of my regular sellers send he had something good. He didn’t lie. The Executive came with the cream dispenser but missing the spare banks under the mirror. The case is in about average condition, not much wear showing. A good day shopping

SWING

  • Another Swedish razor for the collection 🥳
  • I really like the head geometry 'SWING' used on multiple of their razor models. It gives a great shave and covers the whole blade.
  • I don't remember seeing this specific model before. A heavy 2-piece construction with solid brass handle, so it actually weighs 90g.
  • Took it for a spin earlier today and it provided a great shave 👌🏼

Got a package from Sean at Carbon Shaving. The Cx-904L is a safety razor made from 904L stainless steel, a high-alloy grade of stainless steel that is highly resistant to corrosion. 904L is an austenitic stainless steel alloy that contains 1–2% copper and is similar to 316L, but with a higher alloy content. 904L is often used in industries that require high corrosion resistance, such as commercial diving, the military, and the offshore oil industry. It is also used in high-end watchmaking and other prestigious industries. I think Sean is the only one using it.

Gillette NEW ‘Big Fellow Chromium De Luxe’ #20

  • Finally found the fifth and last one of these big manly razors!
  • I'm pretty sure the specimens I have seen so far have been 3-piece designs, but my specimen is a 2-piece.
  • Seems like this razor model came in both designs just like the #81 set.
  • Another razor hunting quest finished👌🏼

I suspect you are the Auric Goldfinger of the wetshaving community.

The last two weeks have been phenomenal as far as my finds in the wild. Best luck ever. Today it was this...

1964 fourth quarter Slim. Price was reasonable. The case is meh, one hinge missing and a crack on the cover.

But the finish is better than the Slim I have.

This last two weeks, I found a Mongoose SE, a PAL Injecto-matic, a Feather injector in a grooming kit, a Schick Adjustable, and a Schick 500.

And I almost fainted when I saw what those Feather grooming kits go for online!

But I committed to "Modern May" and have to wait to try any of these (except maybe that Feather) until June.🤮

Another eBay purchase. A pair of Gillette Cases. The price was right for me and they were paired up in the auction. I will give them a light clean and sanitise and then find some razors in my boxes to go in them. I am sure that I have the correct razors to fit in the cases.

Another purchase of eBay. A cased Wilkinson Sword Razor with strop and one single blade. I am not sure if it works correctly but again I thought the price was right for me. The whole thing, case etc requires a good clean but it should look okay in the cabinet.

Again, another eBay purchase. A Fasan Slant. The plastic base does have a crack in it but it doesn’t seem to affect it. I have used Merkur Slants in the past so I am not sure how I will go with this when I get a chance to try it out. Again the price was in my zone.

All came from the same seller on eBay out here in Australia. He had several auctions with the option to make your best offer. In all cases he accepted my offers and even threw in a Gillette New base plate to go in the case with the Gillette RFB which has some missing teeth. All the Techs are made in the USA as is the Gillette Blue Tip. The Blue Tip is in great condition and seems to works great even though I have yet to try a blade in it. I love Gold Gillette Ball End Techs.

I need to get off eBay…

The latest and somewhat accidental purchases included:

- two 1962 Slim Adjustables, H1 and H2. The (slightly) newer one is in good condition, very slight dulling on the corner of TTO door but otherwise cleaned up really nicely, no plate loss and shiny. Do need to repaint the numbers but that’s an easy task. It looks clean. On the H1 the finish on TTO doors is somewhat worn out, with brass showing, but mechanically it’s sound. This may be a good candidate for replating if I like the way it shaves. These Slims were the main reason I bid on that lot.

- A 1967 Superspeed with a black handle that in the photo looked really worn out. It actually turned out to be almost pristine, just very dirty. I hope I like the way it shaves, as I’d be sad to let go of a vintage razor in such nice condition.

- The fourth razor was a major surprise. In the photo it looked like another superspeed (I was mainly paying attention to the Slims). It turned out to be a ‘72 Super 84 adjustable, also in a good cosmetic shape. I have its longer handled brother and I can already see that I like the balance on this one better.

All three adjustables did not lock the last 1/4 turn, which may be why they were not priced all that high (the more worn out Slim has slight scratches that look like someone was holding it with pliers while trying to turn the tto knob, without luck). However, some patience + CLP loosened them up quite nicely and they all lock great now.

Finally, I have a flare tip SS coming shortly… made a fairly lowball offer on eBay and forgot about it, apparently the seller accepted it just before the listing ended.

With all that, I hope I finally find a vintage Gillette that I like as much as my favorite modern razors…
