My tail has a hole in it?

I picked up this vintage rantankarus from an antique store yesterday for a couple bucks. The scales were broken off and there's a bit of rust but I had never seen a straight with a hole in the tail, out of tens of thousands ive seen. I'm thinking it was a way to hang it up for storage, seems brilliantly simple. For now I'm just going to clean up the blade and preserve $20170205_093832.jpgit for a future project.

Got some of the rust off, looks like "king tail" is stamped on the tail, maybe a trade name for the hole in the tail. Would be nice if they all had it we could hang them on hooks.
