What's new

Just checking in and wanted to say Hello.

First off, I can't say enough about the advice on the forums. Everyone seems pretty great and genuine. I've been lurking for quite some time, I feel like I should try to hopefully contribute. (Or at least join the fun.)

I actually started with a straight edge about 3 years ago. I managed to cut myself(fairly deep) and took a long break. About a year ago, I pulled the trigger on a DE and have been using it since.

I'm pretty sure I've picked up some bad habits when shaving with my old razor(Van Der Hagan). I had to stop using pressure on the new razors I got. So, my bad habits are slowly being corrected as I learn on the new ones.

For X-mas, I got:
Shave Maxx Gift Set, (From Reddit Gift Exchange) (http://www.amazon.com/Shaving-Gift-...TF8&qid=1452141094&sr=8-4&keywords=shave+maxx)
and
Merkur "Futur" (From the GF.) (http://www.amazon.com/Merkur-Futur-Safety-Razor-Finish/dp/B00T7GC1BY)

I have a question I could use some help with:
The current blades I have are Van Der Hagan and a decent amount of Feather Blades. The Feather Blades seem to work great in the Shave Maxx and Van Der Hagan(not really using any more), but seem too aggressive in the Futur? I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for blades to try out with the Futur.

My process is normally:
Shower, preshave oil, lather, shave and finally aftershave/balm.

Thanks so much,
Joe

Welcome to the club, Joe. Glad to have you aboard. the Futur is a very aggressive razor, so I would recommend some medium aggressive blades like Arko Superior Platinum or Wilkinson Sword blades from Germany (not the ones from India). Start the Futur at a setting of 1 and work your way up from there when you feel confident. Save the Feathers for last.

Welcome to B&B!

Astra SP, PolSilver SI, Personna Labs/Med Prep should all be safer than Feather. Don't be afraid to crank the thing down as mild as it will go and work your way up to a setting that works for you.

I appreciate the welcome!
I'm running it on 1 currently. Great shave just a lot different than my first DE. With the Van Der Hagan, it was a chore to get it to shave with it's blades. Both of the new razors it's super easy.

First, Welcome to B&B.
Personna Med Prep blades are not quite as sharp as the Feathers, but are still on the higher end of sharp and, at least for me, are smooth through several shaves. I've used them in the Muhle R89 and the ATT razors. I get 6 shaves per blade, but don't shave my moustache/goatee areas. YMMV
Good luck!

Welcome to B&B! I would suggest a sample pack of blades simply because people have such different preferences when it comes to blades.
