July 2023 Gentlemanly Restraint Until Month End (GRUME)

Still in and maybe, just maybe my last shave of July.

Tonight consisted of
Pre-Shave: Hot face wash
Razor: Rockwell 6S(6)
Brush: Omega Puro Tasso
Blade: Personna Platinum (4)
Soap: Wickham’s Citrus Musk

Post-Shave: Alum Block
Nivea 2-Phase ASL
Bart’s Ben Kilbreck ASB
D R H Arlington Cologne

It was time to reach for the back of the drawer for the Omega brush, bought for me by my wife some 4 years ago, along with the Wickham’s soap. Was rewarded with a terrific shave with absolutely none of that red stuff making an appearance.Razor and blade combo was both smooth and effortless in mowing down a 4 day growth and leaving me with a BBS finish from 3 passes plus touch ups. Wickham’s really is a quality soap at an affordable price in 🇬🇧
On to the next one be it in the next few days or next month.

Question for the mods. If I have a straight but no strop would I be allowed to purchase one on restock day or not

Thanks guys

You could make do with newspaper!

Still in July GRUME
7-27-23 Thursday 8:30pm

Razor: Overlander alu.
Blade: Nacet(2)
Soap: RR XXX
Brush: Omega 10019
Pre: Shower
Post: RR XXX Fresco
20230727_194524.jpg

Long HOT day at work, followed up with too many drinks by the pool.
Really shouldn't have shaved!
But the Overlander comes through again.
2 passes: N-S & S-N E-W on mustache and chin.
Result: DFS
Seriously considering a Brass Overlander, just because.

Be well
Jay

Still in the GRUME , 1 day of growth

July GRUME : 16
2023 GRUYERE : 117

Razor : Merkur 34 HD C
Blade : Shark Super Chrome (3)
Pre Shave : none
Soap (SOTM) : Stirling Margaritas in the Artic
Brush : Proraso Boar
Aftershave: Osma Alum block, Bootleg Green Freeze, Proraso white

Two pass, a few small nicks. The skin is not feeling so great a bit of irritation, 2 shave on that blade would have been better

Day 27, 87.1% complete

Preshave: Hot washcloth
Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Brush: Yaqi 24mm synthetic cashmere
Razor: GC.84 SB, Al Handle, Wizamet SI #1
Bowl: Turkish copper
Post-shave: Nivea 2-in-1 Aftershave

Time for a new blade, so tried a Wizamet for a change. A good near-BBS, and used up a bit more of the MWF.

Nothing is tempting me much at the moment, but if I sign up for August, that will change in an instant. 🤣

@Doti B ,

Hoping the strop is allowed. If it isn’t, you can always be a gentleman rule-breaker
First of all, I don't do straights anymore, and when I did, budget came before enjoyment. So take my advise with a spoonful of salt.

But, newspaper really works! Start on the bed sheet and finish on the morning news. You don't need leather strips to have fun.

Notes to this shave:

Hanging on by a thread and still in!

General - sweet and smooth shave today. Very pleased with the results.

Enjoy your shave!

I'm out!

I made the mistake of browsing Connaught and spotted the new version of the Omega Premium Boar and the FaTip dual head razors. I also added some samples, aftershave balms and blade tucks to bulk up the order.

My wife is also away until Tuesday so I'll avoid the usual "Why did you buy more shaving stuff?!" questioning when it arrives 😂

High Efficiency Summah/Gentlemanly Restraint

Last night’s luxuriously stupendous shave
RazoRock JAWS 0.84 38/100
Lord Super Stainless (4)
Damp washcloth aka “shave binky”
Whipped Dog Butterscotch 30mm boar brush 12/100
Pre-shave: Warm shower
Lather: Wickham’s 1912, bowl-loaded/face-lathered
Aftershave: Ulm Nom
Post-shave: face wash with shave binky
Post-shave: mentholated Equate moisturizer

Got close to the runny lotion lather of the previous shave, but not close enough. Didn’t stir enough soap into it as telling murky waters apart is new to me. A little aftershave sting to punish that sin. Another chance next time.

@lasta , I know it works — the newsprint ink and silica in the paper are also extra-fine abrasives. It just hit me as too Murray Carter when I read it. My bad

Murray Carter? Was he the guy who shaved with an axe some 15 years ago?

John Juranitch is the ax guy.

They both sharpen knives similarly — Spine-to-edge bevel for the primary grind and a micro-bevel to finish.

Carter is the one that says to buy his $$$$$$ knives and then shows how they can be maintained with ¢ materials. His version of kitchen cutlery is now made and sold by Spyderco and he makes straight razors at times. At least he did 15-20 years ago when my hyper-fixation was split betwixt kitchen cutlery and outdoor entertainment cutlery.

Still in , Happy Friday folks!

Razor: Gillette Old Type
Blade: Gillette 7 O' Clock yellow (1)
Soap: Mike's Orange, Cedarwood and Black Pepper
Brush: Vie-Long BGS 2012 Butterscotch Beehive Horse
AS: Bootlegger's Green Freeze

I had been using Goodfellas' Smile Tallow N.1 the last few days but I just can't stand the scent. It is a good soap but the scent was not for me, luckily SWMBO really liked scent so it is now hers. I went back to my favorite soap maker and had an enjoyable shave today with Mike's Orange, Cedarwood and Black Pepper.
