The scratches on the handle must be from a previous owner keeping the brush on some sort of holder - like those rotary rubber stamp ones maybe?

That's an awesome brush. I've never seen an Ever-Ready like that.
To me the scratches look like they came from a pair of pliers. Maybe used to unscrew the handle from the knot.

could be, it screwed off pretty easily by hand for me - maybe because the seller or previous owner did just that. I learned long ago, if I'm going to take a pair of pliers to something to either (1) expect to destroy it and (2) use padding on the jaws.
It didn't ruin the handle, but it destroyed that wonderful patina.

Do you know what its made out of? It looks almost like the top is tin and the bottom is pewter.
Very nice handle.
Probably a fair guess- don't know if there is any sort of test. The bottom part is fairly heavy.

I was nervous about polishing it, but will give it a light rub with some silver polish. The knot is in pretty usable condition.

Added my first Ever-Ready's to the collection this morning. An H40 and a 100t both in pretty good condition with an extra badger knot to maybe put to use. I wouldn't normally "pay up" but $10 was fair and I went into collector mode. Plus the look of the contrasting handles got me
good looking pair! I'm not sure I've seen the black on top one.
