Plisson - Worth the cost?

Yes, it is a lovely brush!

...but why would I want a Shavemac when I could have a Semogue 1305 in boar?

Just because, that's why!

And I still want one of those hunky Plissons in legal ivory. (Even though I already have a Sem 1305.)

Just because....
IMHO because the difference between two different brushes is becoming more and more smaller when you go high end, but the price difference is more and more higher.
It's the same with cars, objectively there is not much difference in comport, power between a Mercedes S class and a Rolls Royce... But still the Rolls Royce is about three times more expensive...

It's not that the Plissons are bad brushes (In fact I can't really tell because I never tried one), I'm sure these are great brushes, but they are still very very expensive for what they are. I mean that if a Plisson is better than say a shavemac, you pay a very big premium for a comparatively small difference.

But of course who is being objective here when buying shaving gear? Well, I'm the first to tell that I'm not...:blushing:

Just my 2 cents...:thumbup1:

I don't recall seeing that one, Peter.. Please show us? I do remember that large Plexiglas. Does it have an actual size number? Or just "Mongo".

Bart: I better go check out this Mongo character.
{Bart reaches for his gun}
Jim: Oh no, don't do that, don't do that. If you shoot him, you'll just make him mad.

Ken, that ivory of his was a beauty, largest ivory brush I have ever seen. And knowing this is Peter we're talking about, he probably has more than one ivory Plisson on his shelf :)

Yeah, when he reads this , he'll post some pictures of his ivory monster and we'll be thinking about it all day long...and if my wife ever found out what I just spent dreaming about all day, I would never hear the end of it...

The brush you're talking about is indeed the ivory Plisson #20.

Former pictures in this thread were removed from the hosting site; only picture remaining is this. But i can take new pictures of it if you'd like...:001_rolle

Yes Sir, that's the one...yes sir indeed. More pictures would be fantastic, have to lay off the coffee...heart doing double time as it is :)

I suppose you have a point. The same could probably be said about choosing between a Feather All-Stainless DE razor and an Edwin Jagger DE89.

Thanks,
Mike

Easy Mike :)

When you'll have the shavemac, you'll still be dying to know if the #8 clear plexi plisson in European White is worth it or not !:lol:

Incidentally, I have a #12 in Clear Plexi and it's a lovely brush

Hi Mike...exactly! You just nailed it....I'll extend your DE example to Feather vs. DE89 vs. PILS or the Joris...a path that I personally went through last year...minus the Feather...

So, what is your take on those three razors?

Thanks,
Mike

As promised Jon and Ken...I apologize in advance for the poor quality of the shots. As you can see in
the pictures the indoor lighting is turning the frosty white tips a sickly yellow!! These guys do look
much better in person! :blushing:

Thanks Ken, was a bit disappointed at how the knots came out - may take some more in better lighting. And for those that have asked, they range in size from #12 to #16.

Well, if it weren't for the risk of transit, I'd say send them to Peter or Søren. Those two guys take the most amazing brush porn I've seen!

But barring that, bring it, Sameer!
