Razors
Brushes
- Gillette 195 Fatboy ('59) -
Blue Bird - Decent shave, face mapping helps prevent razorburn on neck
CVS Personna blades 3 - very rough, neck irritation
Wilkinson Sword black 3 - little smoother, still some irritation
Feather 3 - Very smooth, almost no irritation, lather needs to be slick to prevent skipping
Feather 4 - Very smooth close shave, negligible irritation
Feather 5 - Very Very close shave, razor burn. First full face shave in 4 years, overenthusiastic, probably did 5 passes
- Gillette SS Flaretip ('59) - Feels a touch milder than Fatboy on 3
Blue Bird - Decent shave, little burn
CVS Personna - Rough, mild razorburn
Wilkinson Sword black - not too rough, little burn
Feather - very smooth shave, not as close as Fatboy
- Gillette Aristocrat ('46-47) - Feels a touch milder than Fatboy on 3, shaves a touch under Fatboy on 4, very forgiving
Feather - Clean smooth shave, negligible razor burn
Supermax Stainless - Not shaving as close as I'm used to but not bad for the first 2 shaves, by the third shave it got worse and started getting rough.
Bic Chrome Platinum - Not a bad shave, feels a little rougher on my neck. Not a bad shave but, eh
Lord - not a bad shaver, But it also feels rough on my neck. I'm not shaving as often as usual with these last 3 blades, it seems to be taking a toll on my neck.

- Gillette Old Type OC Pocket -
At machinist's getting new handle turned *update, my machinist just sourced some stock for the handle
- Gillette Aristocrat ('41) - HEAVY brassing, but other than that it's cleaned up real nice. A little tweak of the silo doors and their opening is synchronized. Once I get some shaves under my belt with it I'll have to decide which Aristocrat to send out to be replated. *update, I took some chrome polish to get some stains off the silo doors and it turns out it's not brassed hardly at all! A good deal is worn from the handle to the point that there isn't much to the knurling, but I may have to rethink getting this replated.
Feather - Nice smooth shave as expected. A bit of irritation on my neck, not sure what caused it though. Could be a new shave cream, maybe the razor, or maybe my skin is just acting up a touch.
- Gillette SuperSpeed ('53) - Snagged this off Ebay to replate in black chrome, possible christmas present if I can get my brother into wet shaving. Needs endcaps for the silo door assembly and has some slight pitting and a lot of brassing, seems to be in usable condition though.
Feather - Wow, this is a touch milder like my Flaretip, but what a GREAT shave! This is getting plated for sure, this is a perfect 'monday morning rush' razor. Even with a small nick on my throat (was a bit irritated before I started) NO razorburn, NONE whatsoever. I splashed on some Spanish Floid and . . . nothing, no burn whatsoever. I may need to get a backup for this one as well!
- Gillette chromium-plated NEW DeLuxe Criterion ('30) - Missing it's blade case
Feather - Very nice comfortable shave, the weight is nice but the shave just isn't as close as my Aristocrats.
- Gillette gold-plated NEW DeLuxe Belmont ('30) -
Rapira Super Stainless - Thought I felt it tugging a bit but the shave wasn't bad, not as close as I'm used to and a little bit of irritation on my neck but not bad. i started getting some great shaves with this once I got the angle figured out.
Gillette 7o'clock Green - Not a bad shave, felt a touch rough on the neck.
Gillette 7o'clock Green - Not a bad shave, felt a touch rough on the neck.
- Gillette silver-plated New Improved New Standard ('22) -
- Gillette gold-plated New Improved Tuckaway ('27) -
- Gillette Aristocrat ('48-49) - Notch
Feather - Was in a bit of a rush and got burned a bit trying to go XTG on my neck but the rest is fine.
Derby Extra - Not a bad shave at all, not quite as close as my Feathers, but still a pretty good shave. Just pitched the blade after 5 shaves as it started feeling a little rough, but I might have managed another shave out of it.
Creams/SoapsDerby Extra - Not a bad shave at all, not quite as close as my Feathers, but still a pretty good shave. Just pitched the blade after 5 shaves as it started feeling a little rough, but I might have managed another shave out of it.
- VDH Deluxe - Shea butter, Aloe, Glycerin
Huge improvement over shave foam, skin left feeling clean, smooth & moisturized
- Whoo's Soaps Bay Rum 71 - Coconut, Palm & Safflower oils, Aloe, Glycerin, Bentonite, Aloe
Good lather, better lather than VDH but started to burn after a while, not that wild about the scent.
- CO Bigelow - Coconut oil, Glycerin, Eucalyptus, Menthol, Camphor, Parabens
Great close, smooth shaves. Smells great, easy to lather.
- Shea Moisture Shave - Shea Butter, African black soap (brushless)
This stuff made my skin feel so great I REALLY wanted to love this stuff, but alas the shave sucked and it took DAYS to rinse out of my brush. STAY AWAY, I now use it for my scalp until it's gone.
- Williams Mug Soap -
Decent lather, smells like lemon furniture polish. Not the best shaves, I think I'm leaving this one to it's fans.
- KMF Key Lime
Smells great, easy to lather. Leaves skin clean & moisturized.
- KMF Lavender & Shea - Shea
Same performance as Key Lime, shea butter leaves skin very smooth & moisturized. Light unobtrusive lavender scent
- KMF Unscented
This I plan to experiment with scenting. Shaved with this after hearing reports of lathering problems from some with the new reformulation, luckily I had no problem whatsoever. It still lathered up and gave a great shave as before.
- Speick
Great thick lather, easy shave. Skin feels AWESOME afterwards, not that wild about the scent. Still keeping a cream that works this well around. (Gave a tube to my boss)
- Herban Cowboy Dusk
Feces in a bowl would work AND smell better, I COULD NOT shave with this. VERY difficult to create kamikaze lather that smells like feet.
- Mystic Waters Lily of the Valley - Tallow, Glycerin, Castor, Avocado & Palm oils, Shea butter, Aloe, Bentonite
Haven't got the lather quite right yet. Even with subpar lather this stuff shaves GREAT and my skin feels AWESOME! Cloying scent, but with this kind of performance I'm just going to snag a different scent. Started snurdling as brush loading isn't working for me and I think this is my favorite soap, gonna have to get some Lime!
- Valobra Menthol - Menthol
Damn, I never thought I'd find an easier lather than Bigelow, but this is it. More menthol than Bigelow. Good close shave, skin feels GREAT!
- Tabula Rasa w/ extra Vitamin E -
This stuff is very dry and very soft. I started with a snurdle in my lather bowl, whipped & added water until it made a ton of lather with almost no scent. I ended up doing a quasi 2nd pass (difficult because of my beard) and it came out great. This stuff just continues to amaze me. Very easy to lather and my skin feels INCREDIBLE afterwards
- Top Secret Lanolizado - Lanolin
Lathered up easy and gave a nice shave. I got some irritation on my throat but I think that was from trying for an XTG second pass 2 days in a row. Shaved with this again and no problems whatsoever, skin feels great. This isn't a cream that has a great scent, but once lathered it has a great clean soapy smell I find very appealing, I like it a lot.
- Nancy Boy Blossomwood - Glycerin, Coconut, Avocado & Pistachio oils, Aloe
When I first got this it was thinner like very thick liquid hand soap, now it's thicker like a paste. Still a great shave though. Skin feels great! Decided to stir it up and it was just the top that had thickened, lathered up great, got a very nice shave and my skin feels great.
- Body Shop Macca Root - Glycerin, Brazil nut, Coconut & Sesame seed oils, Aloe (brushless)
Little skeptical at first, but with a touch of water this stuff gets nice & slick. Definitely a great choice for travel. Skin feels great!
- Queen Charlotte Soaps Iced Key Lime - Tallow, Palm Olive & Coconut oils, Glycerin, Aloe Vera, Vitamin E, Kaolin clay
Damnit, they just had to go combine Vostok with Key Lime didn't they? There goes my budget for this week. I just got this today and it smells like a Limade slushie! I LOVE this stuff! I used about half a snurdle with a dry brush and added water till I had some AWESOME lather. Apparently I haven't got the hang of brushloading these tallow soaps, I'll have to try this with my MWS as well. This stuff gives a great shave and actually has the type of menthol blast that people attribute to Proraso/Bigelow and of course a GREAT Lime scent that I'm always a sucker for! - Omega shave cream -
Man I LOVE this cream, I got it with an Omega 10048 and this stuff gives a GREAT shave!
- RazoRock Zi Peppino -
The green tobacco scent isn't bad, I'm not sure how wild I am about it but I do LOVE the AS.
- Art of Shaving Sandalwood -
I'm not sure about the scent, I'm kinda on the fence about it. This stuff is still a GREAT shave cream, it's reputation is well deserved
