The New York Shaving Company offers four grades of badger hair shaving brushes and a 100% synthetic brush. Each grade varies in hair quality, density and durability.
- Mixed Badger: Made from a fine blend of imitation badger and pure badger hairs. The brushes are made to the same high standard as our genuine badger brushes.
- Pure badger: Our basic hand-made shaving brush is made with dark gray badger hair. It is the most common hair from the underbelly of a badger, the hair which covers around 60% of a badger's body. This hair varies greatly in softness, pliability and color. The hair is soft and has medium density (the amount of hairs in the handle). Pure badger hair is usually dark in color, but fluctuates from a light tan to near-black or silvery sheen. The hair is coarser than ?Best? or 'Silvertip' hair.
- Best badger: This handmade shaving brush is very soft with a high density of hair. It is our second best hair grade available. Constructed from light gray badger hair that covers only 20-25% of the badger, this hair is much rarer. This brush will produce a correspondingly greater lather.
- Silvertip badger: This handmade shaving brush is made of one of the finest grades of hair available from the badgers neck and chest. These brushes have a very high density of hair, are ultra-soft and nicknamed silvertip because of their white peaks. It?s a rare type of badger hair. The tips on this hair are white naturally, without bleaching. A "flared" bristle load gives results in the 'silvertip' brush's fluffy appearance and lends the brush its ability to hold a large amount of water. Due to its water retention capacity, a 'silvertip' brush can create well-formed shaving lather quickly and easily.
- Synthetic: This brush is made from 100% Durable Synthetic Fibers that have been specially crimped to retain water and shaving cream or soap when in use.
- Designed to perform like a Silvertip Badger brush, the animal-friendly Bristles produce a smooth, creamy lather for a comfortable shave.
