Seasonal_Fragrances

Common wisdom is that for seasons of the year, or specific climactic conditions, some fragrances are more suitable than others. A warm sunny day, for example, would call for a very different fragrance than a cold evening.

The breakdown has generally run along the lines of these fragrance groups:
  • Spring/Summer: florals, citrus dominant, fougères, blues.
  • Autumn/Winter: ambers, gourmands, woods and chypres.
This is a practical enough approach, and can help steer you towards particular choices. It is not, however, to be considered a hard and fast rule. There are places and cultures where, for example, in very hot climates, people favour heavy attars and oils.

So, if you really enjoy a heavy vanilla gourmand, feel free to wear it year round. You don't have to abide by some arbitrary rule about what you can and can't wear, anymore than you should refrain from wearing a white suit after Labour Day.
