An Attar at its most basic is a distallation of flower petals into sandalwood oil. Volitile oils are extracted from flower petals via steam distillation. The steam is condensed and directed into in a container of sandalwood oil. When the mixture cools, water separates from oil and is poured off. The process is repeated until until the sandalwood oil is saturated with the petals' fragrance. An attar may also contain various spices and/or woods.
