The Weekender Bag (…and More) from Satchel & Page

"Got Shoes?"
Over these past few years, Mrs. Gold and I have found ourselves to be empty-nesters with both kids now out of the home and living their lives.

And with more and more weekends to ourselves, I decided it was time to up my game from a medium Rothco duffle bag and a huge Land’s End wheeled duffle bag to a proper leather bag.

On the heels of a recent upgrade from my 20+ year old Dopp kit to the new No. 2 Shave Kit from Col. Littleton, I decided to pull the trigger on the The Weekender leather bag from Satchel & Page.

I considered bags from Filson, Carl Fredrik, Thursday Boot Co. and Beckett Simonon, along with the Satchel & Page bag and it seemed that the S&P bag ticked the most boxes for me.

I placed the order about 3-4 days ago and it arrived today.

It came wrapped pretty well to protect this leather bag and it comes with its own storage bag for when it’s not in use.

This is a fairly large bag but it does meet airline regs for a carry-on.

The suede-lined interior has a large interior compartment and plenty of room to easily pack for a long weekend.

The outside compartment has space for your laptop and other ancillary items of your choosing.

(I have my Col. Littleton Shave Kit No. 2 in there).

The bottom of the bag has brass feet so that it doesn’t sit on the ground.

It also comes with a leather shoulder strap.

When filled, this already 6lb. bag is definitely going to be on the heavier side, but I don’t think I’ll be filling it to the max for a 2-3 day weekend trip.

Honestly, we are heading out this upcoming weekend for 2 days and I think the missus and me could fit all of our stuff into this one bag.

Even though I’d prefer that she uses her own bag. 🤪

There you have it. Looking forward to (hopefully) aging gracefully with the Weekender Bag from Satchel & Page…

and, of course, with Mrs. Gold too.

32 years later (30 of ‘em, married) and she’s still adorable. 😉🙄😎

It’s a handsome bag. 6lbs empty… feels like a lot of weight to lug around airports.

I’ll probably stick with my RedOxx Airboss and be happy with it.

I have RedOxx’ website bookmarked. I occasionally browse their site. I can see using one of their medium-sized Safari-Beanos PR5 bags as an alternative bag.

The bottom of the bag has brass feet so the bottom of the bag doesn’t sit on the ground.
Other than a wheeled suitcase, my wife will not put any bag on the ground, not at home, not in a hotel, absolutely nowhere. Other than her handbag, I carry my/our luggage and would incur her severe displeasure if I placed any on the ground. I am now so well trained that even when travelling alone I would never place a bag on the ground, because somehow when I got home, she would know 😂

That's a nice looking bag. I've been keeping my eye out for a leather weekender. But I prefer one that is less structured.

That Beckett Simonon one has me intrigued as does the brand. Had not heard of them before. Anyone have experience with them?

So Mrs. Gold and I are headed out for about 8 days for some sun and fun with fam and friends.

So I packed up my Satchel & Page Weekender for its 2nd weekend trip. Last weekend was it’s maiden voyage for a short overnight stay.

Here is Weekender fully loaded.

And this is what the main compartment contains:
IMG_0557.jpeg

1 Rain slicker
1 sweatshirt
3 swim shirts
3 pair of performance shorts
3 bathing suits
1 polo shirt
I pair of pants
4 pair of boxers
2 pair of chino shorts
2 pair of socks
8 tee shirts
2 beachwear shirts

In the outside compartment:

4 watches
1 bracelet
1 belt
1 AirPods
1 Kindle
1 case w/iPhone & Kindle charger
1 patella stabilizer

What about footwear (shoes/sneakers/sandals)?

Mrs Gold and I just throw those in a separate bag as we are not traveling anywhere that requires anything more than a nice pair of sneeks or Top Siders for a night out or sandals for the beach or a pair of Hokas or New Balance for long walks.

What about toiletries?

I will be using my Shave Kit No. 2 from Col. Littleton:

If this was a shorter trip, I’m sure I could fit the shave kit and some footwear in the Weekender.

The Weekender fully loaded is quite heavy but nothing I can’t handle. 😉🙄😀

After reviewing this post, I’m now convinced that I don’t need about 1/3 of the stuff I packed.

You are indeed an overpacker :biggrin1:
 Very true.

I did remove some items before leaving that I thought I wouldn’t need.

I removed:

2 pairs of boxer shorts (the Vuori shorts are lined so I didn’t really need the extra pairs).

1 pair of chino shorts (4 pairs of shorts was enough).

2 tee shirts (I always buy a few when I’m away anyway. Already bought one and a quarter-zip sweatshirt 🙄).

After being away for 4 days (with 5 more days of sun and fun to go 😎☀️), it looks like I’ve pretty much run through everything at least once, with the exception of a polo shirt (I’ll wear it tonight at dinner) and the two beachwear shirts which will get worn eventually. It did rain a portion of one day and I’m glad the rain slicker was secured safely in a closet. 🤪

Did laundry yesterday so everything is ready to go around again.

1 Rain slicker
1 sweatshirt ✅
3 swim shirts✅
3 pair of performance shorts✅
3 bathing suits✅
1 polo shirt
I pair of pants✅
4 pair of boxers (-2) ✅
2 pair of chino shorts (-1) ✅
2 pair of socks ✅
8 tee shirts (-2) ✅
2 beachwear shirts

With all that being said, I’m sure leaving behind half of the things I brought with me would have been fine (and made for a much lighter Weekender bag) but I guess it’s nice to have options.

Later this month, Mrs. Gold and I will be traveling to attend a wedding. I will be taking a minimalist approach to packing for that 3-day trip. :yesnod:

Putting the Weekender to good use! 😀

Same. I only take a laptop and some peripherals home from the office. With everyday use, this would develop a nice patina rather quickly.
