Shiny Dress Pants

I have a few pairs of wool dress pants which have developed the dreaded "sheen" in the seat and along the waist bands. A quick google search reveals several fixes ranging from brushing to gentle ironing to applying a water/vinegar solution to eliminate the problem.

Has anyone here successfully restored a pair of pants to the original nap and ifo so what method worked best for you?
