What's new

FX's 'Shogun' brings a new, epic version of James Clavell's novel to life. :-)

Yeah, it a a gem so far. I read a few of his books quite a long time ago. Huge tomes. This show feels consistent with them. Great acting and attractive people along with good production values.

Watch the series then read the book!

Well, a pretty good series altogether. I have to say I was very disappointed in the last episode.

Don't click this spoiler if you haven't watched it.
The last episode really made the Shogun come off as very self centered and cold. Maybe that was the intent.
To reveal that he only kept the Anjin alive because he was entertaining, and to end the series without his attaining the goal, not seeing revenge upon those who deserved it (Ishido and the other regents), seeing the careless and needless cruelty to those who were completely innocent in the village, and ending with the assumption that all would work out as he thought was a let down after all the build up.
The Bushido moral code was certainly cold, cruel and heartless at times but still - a very disappointing end to an otherwise terrific mini-series.
