He was born in Bavaria, and came to the United States to seek his fortune.
His original occupation didn't pan out, but his back-up plan paid off beyond his wildest dreams.
He was a great Philanthropist, donating huge sums of money to orphanages
and establishing a college scolarship that still bears his name.
He never married nor had children,
he left his immense fortune to his sister Fanny's four sons.
