SHAVE OF THE DAY
JULY 4, 2012

The 236th YEAR OF OUR FREEDOMS

I stopped and thought; how very lucky we have been as individuals and as a newly
integrating nation of people. We were able to earn enough that we could AFFORD to
import products. Then we drew in the Immigrants who had those skills to help us
learn the methods to make our own razors, strops and hones. And, of course,
everything else we needed and later...wanted.

Today's Looonnng shave is a small sampling of some of the products we are so
fortunate as to be able to afford.

Prep: Long luxurious shower.. How nice it is to have controllable temperature water
in abundance!

Soap: The old fashioned cheap Colgate's soap puck. Lucky to have soaps in abundance
as over the counter items and not have to make them locally!

Brush: A 1950's "Century" boar bristle. One of hundreds of makes and brands made
here and abroad

Razors: Again, just a few shown with at least an area pass over my face from each
one. After a century on some, they are still useful! A Genco, Hahn, Simmons'
Hardware "Keen Kutter," Robison "Shure Edge," and the beloved Case Co. "Red Imp."
Again only few of the literally hundreds of brand names available over the years. I
probably should have included the DE and SE razors that made the shaving difference
in this country. So well Bally-hoo'd they were, and useful too!!

Mug: Our own Shulton's "Old Spice" as a representative of the thousands of mugs that
were made and still are being crafted in this country.

Splash: N.O.S. 1950's Hess "Rose Face Lotion" HESS Hair Milk Laboratories of St
Paul, Minnesota, A supply business with a huge selection of tonsorial products. Over
a Century selling to the the Barbershop trade and now with different products, the
beauty trade.

Hone: A Genco made by American Hone Company. A representative of the many hone and strop makers.

And, The Other Mug: It has been a very wonderful thing for me to have been given the
opportunity of being born here in The United States of America!

"home made" MWF stick + New Forest 2213 + Rotbart 15 with Crystal #1 + Proraso balm with masaje Cesar Imperator

Today I have tested for the first time this "artisan made" stick, which is an idea I copied from another spanish user, hehe. My MWF puck was in bad state, dried and chunked in 3 pieces, so I grated the soap and put in an empty deodorant stick container. And I must say that now it performs really well, this solution is very confortable for doing facelathering after passing it through your beard, hehe

About the shave, of course all was well, very clean!

Cheers!

First time with the Jabonman soap, and I must say that Miguel has hit a home run here! This is a very good product. It is a vegetable based soap that lathers as easily and richly as MdC with a fragrance that is heaven for any vetiver fan! And I was left with a very nice face feel afterwards. What a way to start a Thursday!!!
