What's new

Yet another Gold Dollar question

I received a GD #100 with a coticule I recently purchased. I decided to give it a go on the stone lunch time. When I looked closely at the razor it had what I would call a heel spur. A small bit of steel jutting out at the edge end of the heel. So, I took a small fine file and filed the heel into a more well rounded shape. I am not too concerned, I think I will be able to put a nice edge on it, but was wondering if this is common with these GDs and if I took the correct approach to remedy it.

Thanks and a good day to all.

I have honed 3 or 4 Gold Dollars, and that little spur was on one of them. It prevents the hone from making contact with the blade at that heel end. If it isn't removed, or at least filed down, you will have about 1/16 inch of the blade that is not sharpened. While most of us don't shave much on that portion of the blade, I still think it inelegant at the least to not sharpen the entire blade.

That is my long way of saying, yes, I agree with what you did!
